- Albert moodyI enjoyed this one.Just finished. Good read and I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.
- April HardigreeAbsolutely WonderfulAnother Gem of a book. Wight’s ability to develop the story, the characters & the world are amazing as usual. Everytime I finish a novel in the Cradle series I find myself unable to contain my excitement at the next installment & it’s on to the next, with utter disregard for time. I highly recommend this series to anyone who is a true fan of High Fantasy!
- Leonardo Jimenezthe story keeps improvingI think the story is becoming more interesting the new characters are adding a new development to the story.
I think the patterns of resolution of problems are becoming repetitive in some way. But let’s see what the next chapter offers. - Isaac blanchardfantasticI love it! Can’t get enough, barely manage to put these books down, best book yet, looking forward to the rest!
- YuriLindon grows in amazing ways, and we have a new partner!Book 5 in Lindon's tale is with us, and it's a doozy. I'll start by saying I didnt start this series until book 4 was a few weeks from coming out, and really fell in love with the story and style about halfway through the first book. If you haven't started this series, I recommend getting started now. This books little sense otherwise.
Although if you are looking at book 5, I am sure you know what I am talking about.
We start off shortly after where book 4 left off, with Lindon and Yerin being used and scrutinized by the Skysworn. They are taken by their 2 guards off on a special mission that should keep them out of the public eye for a while, since the empire is still trying to keep panic down after the Bleeding Phoenix has made it's appearance, and Lindon's Blackflame path is getting stronger. They are taken to the titular Ghostwaters research facility, created by the Northstrider, to attempt to salvage whatever they can from this crumbling facility that is essentially a underwater pocket world made into a lab. Immediately upon arrival they are greeted by a open doorway they do not expect, and Lindon is taken in with his Skysworn guard while Yerin remains outside along with Mercy and their guard.
Once inside things kick off to a startling and bloody beginning that as usual does not bode well for Lindon's survival. He survives and manages to stumble on a building with what appears to be trash only, and behaving in his usual fashion, manages to make some startling discoveries.
I wont describe more of the story from here on out because you really owe it to yourself to read the book. What I will say is that this book takes Lindon on an amazing path, and the ending is surprising and satisfying. Yerin also does advance but this story is very much Lindon centric, so her part is much smaller, and focuses on her efforts to try to save Lindon. Mercy, meanwhile, being new to the group I suppose, is somewhat relegated to a curious but mostly sideline part.
I've started to re-read the book already to soak it in, but if you felt satisfaction in book 2 when he gets his bloodforged body, or book 3 as he advances his Blackflame path in the testing grounds, you will really like this story. - Nate JAExciting! Addicting!Great book! I've finished the entire series, but I wanted to reread the whole thing again. Right now, Ghostwater might be one of my favorite books.
I was a little upset that Lindon was separated from Yerin and Mercy, but I liked the cool items he got from Ghostwater. Also, loved the new characters! Dross brightens my life with his humourous mood and his funny jokes. And we also have Ziel. Although he has a dull attitude, I like that type of character in a story.
Thanks for all of the time you spent on writing these amazing books, Will! - Brianloved this book and series so far!Books are getting better and better. The first book was a little slow but is now pacing nicely. 7 more to go and looking forward to them all. Can’t wait to see Linden as an Underlord!
- Bryan DesmondThe fun continues...Man, what a blast. After a relatively lengthy break to reread the Red Rising series, I am back in the world of Cradle, and having just as much fun as when I left it.
Ghostwater is a return to form of sorts. Skysworn, while enjoyable, felt like a short lull in progression in some ways, whereas this fifth book is back on the level of Blackflame, which I think is still my top book in the series thus far. In Skysworn, we did not see Lindon advance, but in Ghostwater... well, it delivers. We see our core group of characters sent on a mission to Ghostwater, a pocket world created by Northstrider that is on the verge of collapse after the appearance of the Bleeding Phoenix. Ghostwater and its many habitats turn out to be an invaluable adventure for Lindon, Orthos, and a new character that I absolutely love, Dross.
The fun continues, I'm sure, in Underlord. These books have a tendency to pick up exactly where the last one left off, and I don't feel like stopping.
“The prize is an illusion. The mountain has no peak. You keep climbing and climbing until you fall off and break yourself at the bottom. Highgold is one step, Truegold is another step, but there's no end to it. You could walk forever, but every Path ends in a fall. Just make sure you have something else to keep you going. Sacred arts are not enough to live for.”
