- TrueDarkMajinA hit for the family! Our family's experience with The Super Mario Bros. Movie has been nothing short of delightful. Having watched it twice in theaters, including one 3D viewing, we were thrilled to bring the magic home with this edition. The movie holds a special place in our hearts, as it was our daughter's first theater experience. The excitement of seeing beloved characters like Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach on the big screen was truly memorable. With the home release, we knew we had to add it to our collection to relive those cherished moments.
The movie itself is a fun-filled adventure that captures the essence of the iconic Super Mario Bros. video game franchise. The vibrant animation, energetic pacing, and familiar characters had our daughter captivated from start to finish. It was heartwarming to see her connect with the characters and the storyline, making it a movie night to remember.
The addition of the X-Ray feature in this edition added a new layer of excitement and engagement. It allowed us to dive deeper into the movie, exploring interesting trivia, behind-the-scenes insights, and information about the characters and their world. This feature not only entertained our daughter but also brought a sense of nostalgia for us as parents who grew up playing the Super Mario Bros. games.
The movie's visuals were particularly stunning in 3D. The depth and dimension added an immersive quality to the experience, making us feel like we were right alongside Mario and Luigi on their adventure. Even in the Bonus X-Ray Edition without 3D, the animation remains vibrant and engaging, allowing us to appreciate the intricate details of the Mushroom Kingdom. - Ben & Savannah VosikaGreat movieGreat family movie. Toddler loves it and mom and dad cant complain
- JDHits all the nostalgia factors while giving you an enjoyable movieEver seen the original Super Mario Bros. movie? Yeah, it was terrible. This movie? Great. Jack Black is the perfect Bowser, I couldn't imagine a better Bowser even if Jim Carrey took the role. Chris Pratt did a very good job in portraying an Italian Brooklynite plumber being disoriented in a new world. The actors and actresses did a very good job in a movie that had many fans wondering if they'd live up to lofty expectations.
Easter eggs abound in this movie, while the plot remains fairly straightforward for all to follow with ease. I really love how Mario Kart/Diddy Kong Racing was mixed in, plus a watered-down Smash Bros element (or Mario vs DK) in the Mario vs Donkey Kong fight. Rainbow road was a delightful treat both visually and as a means of travel. The addition of the Kong kingdom was a great tie-in to Mario and Donkey Kong's long history in gaming. Ice country Penguins were hilariously inept, almost like their NSMB counterparts. And Bowser is still the star of the show with Jack Black's wacky vocals and musical antics (Peaches is a great song, not gonna lie). The darklands having a heavy metal concert perfectly fit the ambiance of such a world, much like you'd see in Super Mario World (world 8).
I would've been perfectly fine with just the SMB movie soundtrack, but the addition of 80's montage music thrown in was a huge nostalgia trip for 80s and 90s kids watching this movie. Helped add to the levity or gravity of the situation, which was nice. Might have been a bit over-the-top in some respects, but would you rather just hear Mario music over Thunderstruck? Nah, this was great overall.
PS: Kids love this movie. My two toddlers (3 year-old and 1.5 year-old) absolutely adore this movie. The colors, 3D animation, and ambiance really grab their attention. That, plus my wife and I play Mario games around them on our Switch consoles. They love Mario and I'd love to see a sequel to this movie, maybe a Luigi's Mansion movie? - Dwidson MetayerFantastic Movie Edition! The Super Mario Bros. Movie – Power Up Edition is amazing! The Blu-ray and DVD quality is excellent, and the digital version makes it easy to watch anywhere. Fun, colorful, and perfect for both kids and longtime Mario fans. A must-have for this oldtimer Mario fan!
- HackEssential if you are a Mario fanThe best way to experience an instant classic.
- Willie G.R.Fantasitc movie with some odd things here and there, but still a delightA fun little movie that I cannot get enough of. I could watch it again, and again, and again! The reason for the -1 Star may be silly to some but: I find that this movie was too short, and had too many cuts that looked good on the many trailers circling the internet. Then there's the fact that in the games, Mario usually is out saving the princess, and while I do love how Peach can be her own one-woman-army, it took a bit off the nostalgia for this series that I love. MIND YOU, the movie is still great! One last thing that bothered me a lot on this movie was the fact that, despite Mario being treated as a "Nobody" at the beginning of the movie by the Toads, for some odd reason he is suddenly regarded as someone "so very important" without explanation as to HOW his status rose so highly for them.
Despite all of that, I HIGHLY recommend this movie, as it is a lot of fun, has good humor, nice drama and tension, and so many Mario game elements do appear on this movie that its just a DELIGHT to watch again and again!
