  • He wants a wife, she wants a one-night. So good!!!
Sometimes it’s hard for me to fall in love with the couple that follows the first book, but that was not the case with Mistakes Were Made. While this can be read as a standalone, I highly recommend reading Story of My Life first because the main and side characters are all so lovable. I adored Zoey and Gage so much! Those Bishop brothers are swoon-worthy!

I connected with Zoey on such a personal level. I also didn’t discover until my early 40s that I have ADHD, and life could have been a bit easier if it had been discovered much earlier, just like Zoey. Her character made me feel seen and understood. I loved her spontaneous reactions and related to the way her mind works.

Gage was so dreamy and 100% book boyfriend material. The sweaty sports bra scene is one you won’t want to miss. Zoey gets stuck in one and Gage comes to her rescue, but what happens next is so unexpected and hilarious. For sure a turning point for Gage. Also, another third-act breakup done right, with lots of the grovel I love.

    What to expect:

Neurodivergent FMC • small town romance • total opposites • forced proximity • not-so-secret dating • found family of the best kind • incredible chemistry • entertaining banter • lovable animal side characters • the perfect amount of delicious steam

Thanks to Lucy Score and Hambright PR for giving me an advance reader copy of this disastrously beautiful romcom. I love Story Lake so much and can’t wait for Levi’s story!
  • Heart and Humor - A true Lucy Score Novel
    *Spoilers*

Lucy Score always delivers entertaining small-town romances and "Mistakes Were Made" was no exception. This was the perfect sequel in this series.

One thing I’m especially grateful for is that I started by reading "Story of My Life" first. Having that extra context made a big difference going into this book. It helped me better understand the characters, their dynamics, and some of the references throughout the story, which made the reading experience feel richer overall.

I also have to say...this book had SO many moments that made me crack up. There’s a line where she says, “Laundry Room Oral Bishop, I’m impressed,” and I was listening to the audiobook while driving and absolutely lost it. Anyone looking into my car probably thought I was crazy because I was laughing so hard. Lucy Score’s humor and banter are always top-tier, and this book really delivered on that. I really enjoyed the chemistry between the main characters. Their connection felt natural, and Lucy Score’s signature banter kept the story engaging.

I also loved Zoey’s relationship with Opal. The way it starts with Zoey discovering Opal was talented in the creative writing class and then finding out she has multiple manuscripts just ready at home was kind of shocking because you assume her next author is going to be Levi. I especially liked how Opal’s background as a psychologist comes into play and leads to Zoey realizing she has ADHD. It added an unexpected layer of depth to the story and made their connection feel even more meaningful.

Another moment that really stood out to me emotionally was when Gage’s sister asks him to represent the woman who technically killed her husband and put her in a wheelchair. It creates one of those moments where your heart almost splits in two. On one hand, you feel fiercely protective of her the way her brothers do, but at the same time you can’t help but feel sympathy for the other woman as well. I really loved how Lucy Score brought her back into the story in a different light and allowed that storyline to evolve into something more compassionate. Watching Gage ultimately represent her and move toward forgiveness was really powerful.

And maybe it’s just me, but I can’t help wondering if that storyline might be setting something up… because part of me feels like she and Levi could end up being the next couple.

The small-town setting added a lot of charm to the story. The side characters and community dynamics helped make the world feel lived in and added extra layers to the plot.

Overall, this was an enjoyable romance with heart, humor, and plenty of emotional payoff. If you like small-town romance with strong chemistry, great banter, and moments that will genuinely make you laugh out loud, "Mistakes Were Made" is definitely worth picking up.
  • Breathless!
Gage Bishop. Sigh. The swooniest hero ever written. A good man, an attorney, a construction contractor, a loyal son and brother. And so taken with the manic pixie Zoey, he falls off a roof the first time he sees her.
Zoey Moody. A big picture kind of woman with a heart as big as the ocean. Now if she could only remember where she put her car keys. Seemingly erratic, absentminded, flighty. Ahhh, but things are not as they appear with our fair literary agent heroine.
Gage has every aspect of his life planned and organized into neat little boxes, Zoey…not so much. And that’s what creates magic. You will be stunned breathless by the way Gage loves Zoey. I’ve never read anything like it, and I never wanted this book to end!
Story Lake once again takes a leading role in bringing a happily ever after to our new favorite couple, as well as a new side character that you will stand up and cheer for! Our old friend Goose also plays prominently in the Grand Gesture, which is as it should be! This whole book is perfect, and I couldn’t put it down! Big feelings, big belly laughs, maybe a big gulping sob or two.
Lucy Score is a sorceress who knows how to plug directly into your heartstrings.
