- Lisa ZEmotionally compelling and I was in love with Woofarine!I’m not sure if my first book was The Friend Zone or Part of Your World, but once I found this author, I immediately read everything she had published. I also bought the audio, but I like to wait a while after reading a book, so the audio is almost like a new story to me.
Ms. Jimenez writes the most emotionally compelling stories I’ve ever read, and she will put you through the wringer! The characters come to life, and I can visualize each one, the landscapes, buildings and more. I can’t pick the book I love the most as I love all of them and wish she would publish more often.
I read so much that initially I was trying to remember the characters in this story as we’re back in Minnesota after the story, Say You’ll Remember Me. So many characters and places I recognized from previous books.
This book was full of PINING, especially for Chris. As the blurb states, it just took a moment for a decision to be made that would affect so many people. I loved how much he cared for Larissa, doing everything he could to keep her safe and happy, all while believing they couldn’t be together.
It’s interesting to have such a close look at nut allergies and how careful a person must be as it’s a life-threatening issue. So much work for Larissa to determine if she could eat at a restaurant or at someone’s home and always having to be alert.
The dog – oh my goodness, I was in love with Woofarine! Such a small dog but acted like he was a tiger and not afraid of anything. He could almost carry this story on his own! Great use of the dog to keep Chris and Larissa in touch as they took turns co-parenting the crazy dog.
Having a man that loves to read is such a great part of this story and how Chris and Larissa could talk for hours about various books.
I loved all of the characters, their stories and the long history most of them had with each other. Chris had losses he struggled with, Larissa had parental and other issues and Mike couldn’t seem to recover from a loss in high school.
There are a lot of serious issues in this book and Ms. Jimenez writes them perfectly to where you can understand how a character felt or had to deal with the outcome of others’ issues. Larissa has so many struggles but just keeps moving to try to have a better life.
With Larissa dating Mike but becoming close friends with Chris, I wasn’t sure how Ms. Jimenez could manage to make things work out, especially with such large friends and family groups involved. There were a few places where I got a little teary, I think mostly for Chris but there were emotional scenes for several characters.
I highly recommend this story to readers, whether you read or listen to books. I would also recommend searching for her previous books as they are exceptional reads.
I’ll be anxiously waiting for the next publication! - WhenSheReadsDisappointing.I heard a lot about this author but wow was this disappointing. Maybe it was just overhyped, but the story fell flat and the writing isn't very compelling.
- Kaitlyn LAnother amazing Abby bookFirst of all, there is so much yearning and pining in this book it’s honestly ridiculous. And I mean that in the best possible way. We’re talking full on Bridgerton level longing, the kind that is borderline painful but completely addictive. I ate it up.
Abby Jimenez’s writing style is so easy to fall into, and I mean that as a huge compliment. It’s simple without being boring, emotional without being overdone. No frills, no overly complicated prose, just characters who feel real. Like, actually real. This story feels like it could belong to someone I know, and that intimacy made it hit even harder.
Now the situation itself was MESSY. Chris is completely in love with his best friend’s girlfriend and can never, ever say a word about it... to either of them. So instead, he just kind of… exists in that space. Watching, yearning, quietly suffering, and somehow still covering for his friend over and over again without getting any credit. Meanwhile, he and Larissa are building this genuine friendship (plus coparenting a completely unhinged dog, which was honestly such a highlight).
I loved the contrast between them: Chris being steady and selfless, and Larissa living in what feels like constant chaos. And not the kind she creates herself but the kind where life just keeps hitting her over and over again, and she truly doesn’t deserve any of it. Through all of that, Chris shows up for her in ways her actual boyfriend never does (and let’s be honest… he really never does).
As always, Abby delivers an emotional story with so many layers. At times I genuinely wanted to throw the book and be like, “Can these people catch a break, please?!” It borders on emotional torture, but in a way that still feels grounded in reality because honestly, life can be that hard sometimes.
Chris absolutely stole my heart. Everything he does feels intentional, and his love is so loud even when he isn’t. He puts everyone else first: Larissa, his friends, his mom... and consistently puts himself last, which is both admirable and heartbreaking. Truly, we all deserve a Chris in our lives.
Another standout here was the focus on friendship, especially male friendships and those dynamics. The found family element was, as always, excellent, layered, and meaningful. And I’ll never get tired of Abby’s chaotic animal moments because they add so much humor and warmth.
I loved everything about this book (including that gorgeous cover), and I already know I’ll be picking up whatever Abby Jimenez writes next. - MomofThreeFantastic! This is a friends to lovers, act of service romance at its finest. It showcases the love that can grow between two characters who just get each other. Chris is dependable and a caregiver to his soul. He is everything Larissa needs after feeling like she’s been drowning her whole life, but he wasn’t her choice. She chose Mike, she’s dating Mike. She can’t ever be with Chris, not after being with his best friend. The burn between Chris and Larissa is SLOW, but completely undeniable! Another fantastic book by Abby Jimenez.
- MaticHer best one ..in my opinionThis book was amazing ????. I loved all the characters and the love story. Please read and hope the characters reappear in other books.
- AmandaEpic and beautifulThis book hit different than the others. I love how the characters grew and dealt with issues many deal with in real life. Never a disappointment reading an Abby book.
