- BeaBubba2Solid phoneThis is a great phone for the money. Camera works well and the Bluetooth connection is reliable. Google mapping works well too. If you aren't looking for prestige with the latest and greatest tech, this is a solid choice. Don't forget to buy a case before you drop it.
- Melissa CooperGood phone, good priceMy husband works construction, so he doesn't need an expensive phone around all that dust. His last phone, A14, had a cracked screen, so I figured it was time for a newer phone. I only purchase Samsung Galaxy phones and this was a nice upgrade for him. He is pleased with it. He likes that he still can use his expandable storage and transferring from his old one to his new one was a breeze with the smart switch app feature Samsung has.
- greybeardDecent, Affordable PhoneThe phone seems to be a good replacement for the ancient Google Pixel 3 that it replaced.
Why 4 stars? It is the first phone I've had that requires that 2 buttons (volume down & power) be pressed simultaneously to turn it off. I realize that most of you kids these days leave your phone on constantly. I'm an old and actually turn mine off. It's difficult with this phone. It seems that 9 times out of 10 I press one of the buttons slightly before the other, which doesn't work. I have to hit them at absolutely the same time, so it often takes 3 or 4 tries to turn it off. - I'm not a cat.6 years of support, but set your expectations.I was a Moto user. Before moving over to Android, I was among the 0% that used a Windows Phone. My needs have been modest, so the idea of shelling out nearly a thousand or more for a phone never crossed my mind. What is important is ongoing support, which rules out every cat-sat-on-a-keyboard brand. It’s also the reason why I switched from Moto over to Samsung; offering 6 years of OS and security support (from initial release) on an entry-level class device is a HUGE PLUS. In the case of this A17, that’s all the way into August 2031.
This is NOT a fast phone by any means, however. Playing media and general browsing? Sure. Playing video? Fine. Lots of videos at once like on some social media platforms? Not so much. Taking videos? It's only 1080p. More immersive games? I wouldn’t bother. Between the processor and the 4GB of RAM, some patience will be necessary, especially for folks running lots of apps. There is more underlying “bloat” here; turning off the animations under developer mode along with unneeded services improves the experience a bit, however.
The A17 phone case I purchased separately for this arrived labeled as an A26; the glass screen protector as an A16, so apparently this phone shares a very similar design with those models. No 3.5mm jack but there is a micro SD slot which it shares with the SIM tray. The AMOLED screen is a huge plus; great contrast and sharpness, which is NOT common in this entry-level class. It does have NFC for tap to pay, but no wireless charging.
Will this win any benchmarks? No. Folks expecting sports car performance at an economy car price will be extremely disappointed. This does not nor will not compare to phones that cost more. However, if your needs are modest, there’s no need to spend $$$ either when this will do the job.

Edit: Just for added confirmation about ongoing support (or lack thereof), the Moto G17 that was just released at the end of January 2026 does NOT promise ANY OS updates at all. That's a stark contrast to the A17 here with a promise of 6 years of OS and security updates. - Jerimiah JohnsonDont waste your moneyThis phone is awful . The battery dies way too fast . You can't use it for a full day . It doesn't support certain apps . It doesn't work very well with Google cuz I can't use any of my saved passwords or usernames . You can't talk to text it's a hassle . The keyboard trying to use it is crap . I mean my Galaxy watch 8 is smarter than this phone . The only thing that I can say that has anything going for it is the fact that it connects to the internet Wi-Fi and the Bluetooth works for some apps but I have to keep reconnecting it to my car ....... I wasted my money on it , definitely not worth wvat i paid . This is a crap phone and I don't recommend this product ,
- MZ Party of 6The US version was released 1/8/26 - I ordered 2 and received them on 1/9/26My family has had several Samsung A series phones over the years: A12, A14, A15
The A14 was a huge speed upgrade from the A12. The A17 feels about the same as the A14 and A15.
I like the JETECH cases the best - great fit and feel - but there aren't a lot of color options.
The screen on the A17 doesn't appear to be as bright as the A12/A14/A15, but it's definitely easier on the eyes.
The cameras on ALL of the A1x series phones absolutely stink. The A17 is no exception. At least the 0.5x is back on this model, although not present in selfie mode. The cameras are the ONLY thing I truly dislike about these phones.
Speed and function is very good for a sub-$200 unlocked phone.
These work well with Tello, Red Pocket, and Mint Mobile.
In some ways, the Motorola G Power phones are a little better, especially now that they added NFC on their entry level phones, but they only have 2 years of security updates on their cheaper phones, and Samsung is up to 6 years.
As with any tech, you get what you pay for. I think these are a good value. Anything noticeably better is going to run you well over 300 dollars. - Bradley PetersonIt's Samsung. They did their job with this one. This was the easiest and quickest setup I've ever had. Typically I would go to the phone authorized dealers or stores to have my services activated. I didn't have to with this one. You get what you pay for and I'm satisfied. Using it for a week now. The carrier is not reliable and it's frustrating at times. Im in a bad area too so I cant fault them on it too much. Im looking to travel so my opinion will most likely change. Phone works as it should. One thing that got me is the fingerprint reader works good but when you don't enter your pin for a while, the phone won't recognize your fingerprint and won't tell you that you need to press the home button to unlock your phone. I almost got annoyed. It works though. I can do what I need to do with it.
