- Evan grambyIt's a great book as alwaysI found myself enthralled with the book, it took me a moment to remember why and then I was along for the ride. Watching Freddy change as a character, not grow very important difference, he slowly came to understand politics and how to be a leader. And for 90% of the book it was a fantastic read, and then the ending came.
I have to specify that the ending is not bad, its well written, its really good, it fits the story and its just like the other 3 books. When I reached the last four, maybe five chapters I knew what would happen, because it happened in the last three books. I literally found myself thinking, Damn I'd love for Freddy to end a book happy and saying "That could have gone worse." He can never say it because every books final chapters end in a horrible way. In like the final chapter of this book he, once again, takes all the character growth he's made about personal relationships and friendship and throws that right out the window. It was so out of nowhere, and exactly in the author's writing style, that I was somehow totally unsurprised. But because it keeps happening its simply a character flaw of Freddy's and I can hate it while still enjoying the story. And I definitely enjoyed the story.
I'll be here for book number five and onwards. Keep 'em coming I can't wait to see what this personaification of Insanity and his pal Bloodshed do going forward. - gezuvorBook 4 does not disappoint! This is an excellent series and Blaise continues to surprise me with twists and turns in the plot. Freddy is a relatable MC and the supporting characters are well developed and keep the story rich and entertaining. Can’t wait for Volume 5 to drop!
- Kindle CustomerBloody Brilliant!Literally. I think this series is the only one that I did not need to re-read the previous book before reading this one, although half a year passed between book 3 and 4. It was so good that many other books in-between failed to even slightly dampen the impact of previous volume. And what a glorious sequel this one was! Ahhh..
On other note, I think the "litrpg adventure" classification for this series is kind of misleading. Adventure. Bah! It would probably fit better something like "Dark Horror sci-fi psychological thriller" or something. - MarieNot filler but definitely in a cornerVolume 4 is a great book. However at the end of Volume 3 the main character was written into a corner. With the 100 years of training he had gotten to the peak of where he can be at this time. The problem is that rather than proving this false by delving deeper in his other skill, increasing his tier, training with others or a plethora of other things he just stagnated. Written into a corner at the end of volume 3, in the 4th it stays firmly planted in that corner. There are some story developments but far too few for how little else happens. What does happen retreads old ground almost feeling like they were ripped from previous books. It is fine to have a slower book but I really hope it doesn’t repeat in volume 5.
- Kindle CustomerTough but fun readTough book in many respects but it is what made it an interesting read. Honestly not sure what to make of it other then I enjoyed it.
Well done and held up its end of the series so to speak. Looking forward to the next one. - Derek LokeyWorth ReadingThis book was solid but a bit weaker than the others. It lacked a lot in the LitRPG elements. Presumably Freddy’s stage 3 abilities continued to grow throughout all of the weeks of combat, but there was no real mention of such. The series continues to be pretty dark. That’s not necessarily a problem, but it becomes hard to root for anyone.
Still, looking forward to the next one. - michael burnettEnjoyed reading!I normally wait for the audiobook to come out, but started reading this one and was thoroughly entertained through the story at first I thought it might start out slow with a whole bunch of boring city building stuff, but it actually progressed pretty quickly and had a lot of fun action and fighting.
