- Amazon CustomerBad ESC on motor #2. On 1 of the 2 FC’s I orderedI ordered 2 flight controllers 1 of the 2 had a bad esc. Motor would not spin for anything. Requested a replacement and sending 2 back because that’s how the return was generated. I’ve built Fpv drones the last 5 years this is the first time have had a FC bad out the box
- J. ParkAll in One and Great SupportI used this flight controller to make a 75mm whoop. Used a 1s 450 mah battery, Beta FPV 0802SE 23000KV motors, Caddx Ant Nano camera. Note that the display connector is a 0.8 JST connector, so I couldn't use the cable that came with the camera which was a 1.0 JST, had to solder it to the board. Also added a buzzer.
Got about 6 minutes of flight time. However after a few weeks of flying, I noticed that the OSD display was disappearing intermittently. This problem became more frequent. I contacted Beta FPV support. After sending videos they sent a replacement flight controller. The replacement fixed the problem. Hopefully it will not happen again.
Giving them 5 stars for a great product that has everything you need to make a whoop on one board. Also great support.
Note that the warranty period for this product is 30 days from receipt. So test it when you get it. - Franklin DuBrayVtx is fragile, have a M03 5.8G VTXAwesome board but the vtx will go out even if you dont crash, it will start flickering. Not the end of the world. They make a m03 external vtx you can solder on.
- AjaxCould be bad luck, but multiple defective BetaFPV FCs in a row likely isn't coincidence...Normally, I'd have expected to write a glowing review for BetaFPV products. There's been some serious winners I've had over time.
But during Prime day I decided to re-stock on their flight controllers (yes, they do have a tendency to have an ESC slowly burn out/degrade over time, so be prepared for this) so it was time to buy some more.
Long story short, I had multiple in a row that were defective. Either dead on arrival or clearly a bad batch.
When connected via USB they would all heat to 80 degrees celsius and fry themselves. (This is not normal behavior at 25mw VTX output on the bench.)
Then enter the SECOND Matrix board I got. I had a fan on it the entire time while using BetaFlight, got it set up, literally plugged in the motors (BetaFPV 0802) and a BetaFPV C03 camera. No soldering at all. Zero room for user error.
It was working in BetaFlight before (but overheating)and it had been plugged into a 1s battery too prior to this.
But once assembled with motors and the camera, suddenly plug in the exact same battery.... boom, dead flight controller. Second time this has happened now, and similar issues with the Air Series 4in1 bought during Prime Day.
And BetaFPV support? Good joke.
BetaFPV has stopped replying to my emails now after I showed them video proof of this happening. Their previous advice after clearly explaining the flight controller was dead was "Just try reflashing the default CLI."
No.... Just no.
That won't work when the flight controller is dead and no longer recognizes USB input or boots up from the battery.
As I said, I used to recommend BetaFPV. Overall still (sort of) do, at least for their larger drones.
I'm not sure if the stuff they sell via Amazon is a lower quality or if their entire company's QC process was chucked out the window in the last year or so.
And good luck reaching out to their support team. If they do honor their warranty, they'll likely send you a used board that is also defective. (Ask me how I know...)
More than likely you'll get incredibly, mind-blowingly, unhelpful responses -- If you get any at all.
Steer clear! Multiple defective flight controllers isn't bad luck, it's indicative of a bad company and bad QC.
Stick with Happy Model or NewBeeDrone if you want to do tiny whoops.
With all this said, this was not Amazon's fault and they were the one good aspect of this giant PITA, being quite accommodating to help make things right.
BetaFPV on the other hand... I want to still like them, I really do. Their Pavo 20 Pro is awesome. But their support is awful, and their tiny whoop (1s) flight controllers leave a LOT to be desired.
When they work they're great -- But that's IF they work.
TLDR: Buy at your own risk. - JRBetafpv Matrix AIOIt is really hard to beat this flight controller. Cost is reasonable. I have used the Meteor75 Pro factory tune for the 3 quads shown with minimal changes. I have just begun to increase the tuning so I have yet to see the max performance that I can get out of the Matrix controller but I am pleased so far. Edited 5/18/2025- I like this controller so much I have another one and some 0702 II 30000kv motors on the slow boat from China for a 65mm quad to compete with my hummingbird v4. All of my Betafpv stuff works great.
