- Leo HottNo need to be a game fan to love this movie!!!!Not ever having played the game I had zero " gamer bias" to contend with...so I count myself lucky there. As a huge fan of the Sword & Sorcery genre I don't have any reservations recommending this movie to any lover of the genre. Of course if you are a huge J.R.R. Tolkien fan the characters called Orc's may bother you a bit , but I doubt it because anyone that is truly a fan of the Sword & Sorcery genre has come to realize the name & characters of " Orc's" have saturated the genre & these particular Orc's are extremely awesome in both appearance & as a sympathetic warrior race driven from their home planet & deceived by a malevolent Warlord who is bending the entire race to his will with a terrible dark magic. I don't want to give away to many spoilers for those that haven't seen the movie & are as ignorant of the game as I am. That brings up another point you certainly don't need to be a fan of the game to enjoy this highly fast paced Sword & Sorcery action adventure!!! It is visually stunning with awesome fight scene's including good use of magic as a weapon & for defense. This is no B-rate low budget film to bulk up the genre but a top notch Sword & Sorcery flick worthy of any collection!!! It was so fast paced I had to watch it twice once when everyone was awake & again later when I was alone to fully take in all the beautiful cinematography, great fight scenes & fun fantasy escapist storyline. Yes there is a lot going on in this very fast paced thrill ride of a movie & so much to see its worth owning because you will probably see something new every time you are ready to watch it again. I think the acting was great especially when you factor in that a lot of the acting is done against green screen with nothing to act off of. Gamer or not this is a great addition to any movie library!!!
- saundbyFantastic Film, 4K really brings out the detailsAt release this film made history with its leap forward in facial micro-movement animation, giving the CGI characters so much greater depth and emotional range. It's still a landmark in this regard, with CGI mo-cap characters able to hold the camera as well as a live actor.
The story is great as well, a solid fantasy story that you don't have to know anything about Warcraft to enjoy thoroughly. If you enjoy and form of high fantasy, you have to see this film.
The 4K HDR really shows well in the landscapes and sets as well as in the characters and magic effects. A big step up from the Blu Ray. - BryanAn awesome visual realization of Azeroth which mostly succeeds at introducing viewers to the world of Warcraft.Being well-versed in the lore of Warcraft, I understand what a monumental undertaking it is to try and introduce the plotlines of this universe in a 2 hour film. I also understand that the fact that it's difficult to do doesn't mean that the movie should get a free pass. However, they kept the scope of the movie just small enough that I think it came together well enough to tell an entertaining story in the length of a standard motion-picture.
The visuals were mostly incredible. All of the locations and armors depicted looked spot-on to what you'd imagine from the games. I love the technology that allows the orcs to be acted by real humans and not just voice-acted CGI.
The acting won't blow you away, but it's a movie with so many simultaneous plotlines that each actor really doesn't get enough time to shine. For the time they were given, I think the actors did their roles justice. Medivh and Khadgar were compelling, and very well done. Garona and Lothar had their moments. The king and queen were immediately likable, as they were supposed to be.
I hope that we do see a sequel, as these Warcraft movies should only improve as we get more of the basics out of the way, and can proceed into some of the most well-loved plotlines in the game series. - Paul HeeFor the Horde!!!Brief comments about the 4k Format: The picture and sound were great. The CGI and scenery looked fantastic. I did not compare this with non-4k format so can't say if there is much of a difference. There are no extra features on the 4k disc, all of the extra features are on the Blu-ray disc. For those who do not already own the regular Blu-ray and have a 4k player I would recommend getting the 4k version.
Comments on the digital format: The code can be redeemed directly on iTunes so you can also use the code to redeem for a UV copy as well. Having both versions comes in handy so that not only can I watch it on my iPhone and iPad, but also use Roku's Vudu app on other TVs.
Comments on the movie for non-WoW players: Looking at the movie from a non-WoW point of view it was pretty good. They explained the story line well and it was fun to watch. It may peak the interest to see sequels if they're done right.
Comments on the movie for WoW players: From the point of view of a WoW player, especially one who played the horde I gotta ask, "Where's the Undead love?" So it was mainly an Orc vs Human conflict with brief glimpses of Dwarves and Nelfs (Night Elves). I do think though that they set this up to be a great intro in to a sequel where they get banished to Kalimdor and meet up with the Trolls and Cows (uh, I mean Taureen). Something else that I missed was the different classes. They don't need to get carried away with it, but it would have been cool to see some Hunter and Healer action as well. As mentioned before the cinematography was great. Seeing Ironforge and Stormwind look exactly like the game,... at least from what I can remember when I've snuck in there raiding the Alliance capitals. For the Horde!!!
