- jeffrey rhodesDracula livesThis movie is one of the best Dracula movie. Caleb Jones as Dracula did a great job portraying the original vampire. A+++
- BillFar superior than other Dracula movies.Spectacular movie. Does circles around Coppola's version and all others. Every actor was incredible, attractive to look at, and extremely likable. I was invested in each character. There is a big difference in non Hollywood movies lately and how they are far superior than what Hollywood has been producing. I seen this twice in the theater and each time there was applause at the end and almost every person had tears in there eyes in they exited the theater.
- Lisa SGood movie / Bad CGIOverall, the movie is pretty good. My only issue is with the CGI. It’s only slightly better than stop motion. The movie would have benefited greatly if they had removed the gargoyles all together and used live actors instead.
- iamTerrible movieThe gargoyles were really awfull. The man that played Dracula was not at all attractive & with the top hat & long hair looked silly! Nothing about this stupid movie was entertaining. Why are nearly all new movies so bad?
- Anastasiagothic romancea very good movie i deff recommend
- Julie Ann JohnsonA great filmI have enjoyed watching this Dracula version more than any other Version. The story is so romantic, the music is haunting and the actors are the best. Why all the one star ratings clearly they have not watched this film!
- Steve DouglasDRACULA...A DIFFERENT BUT CREDIBLE TAKE ON THE TALE.Different from what I expected and better than I hoped for, my first ever watch of the new 'Dracula' on blu-ray. The original title for this film was 'Dracula: A love Story' which would have been very fitting. This feature sticks with much of the original Bram Stoker tale but turns left and right with different twists making it its' own. The first hour of the film does a great job of displaying the count's love for his honey, how he lost her and his godly sentence after killing the head priest in his anger and sorrow and renouncing god. This whole section is the first to really go into his love and loss. The Bram Stoker version, which I love, centers more on Dracula's events once he is in the UK, and while showing the suicidal death of his beloved, that part is dealt with very quickly. In this version of Dracula the love and loss is extended out to the point where empathy for the count is easily made.
Harker, who we know has lost his mind to the count in previous versions, has his life spared since the amulet around his neck has a photo of the beloved that Dracula has been looking for for the last 400 years.
The second half of the film is a development of Dracula's power over people due to the incredible scent he searched the world for and now uses to lure others under his power. His castle is not populated with beautiful, naked women but by gargoyles who come to life when he needs them. They also serve as a great surprise at the story's end.
All in all, this version of Dracula is both entertaining, very well done and quite credible. Christoph Waltz, as a priest is the only actor I recognized; he and the rest of the cast do a fine job of carrying the narrative along till its' final conclusion.
The video quality is cooly lit for most of the movie with warm coloring when inside the English rooms. Details are sharp and precise though the consistency of smaller elements is not terribly noticeable. Contrast is solid throughout.
The audio provided is either a DTS HD MA 5.1, which is what I chose or a standard 2.0 stereo. Dialogue is even and clearly enunciated. The surrounds of the theater are used but sparingly to spread the ambience of the atmosphere and rooms. This leaves the front stage as your primary source and it is as a nice wide area.
I was disappointed that there were no extras at all. I would have thought that Luc Besson, who has directed so many excellent productions would have provided some interesting tidbits, deleted scenes and even a talking head or two. There wasn't even a digital code slip in the case.
Maybe once the movie is released on 4K, those things will be added to the package. - Anywhere USAA cheap remake of Coppolas version only worse. This version of Dracula pretty much goes off the rails. Doesn't even come close to Stokers masterpiece. A cheap remake ( especially the cheesy FX) of Coppolas Movie. Too many plot holes, and the acting is fair at best- not to mention completely absurd. Not even close to Stokers intentions. Believe it or not there are worse versions of Dracula out- but this does really come close to joining them. If you want to see a decent re telling of Stokers masterpiece look to BBCs version with Louis Jordan, Count Dracula with Christopher Lee ( or any Hammer Version starring him), the version Starring Frank Langella or the 1931 version with Bela Logosi. Truly the best remake is the Remake of Nosfruato with Bill Skarsgard. This film is fair at best - and that's giving a star for even trying. Maybe to generous- the acting of the main Character wasn't too bad. But the rest of the film needs to take a walk in the sun. The makers of this film certainly didn't do their homework on Stokers book or the cinematic or history of Vlad II / Dracula. The makers of this film truly ripped of Coppolas version with verycheesy FX, Story& spoken lines. It's a wonder the producers they were not sued on this. This version of Dracula It is certainly not the worst- no - but pretty close. The acting & story was fair at best. There are way better versions of the Classic out there and this is certainly not it. Don't waste your time or money on this stinker. I guess it's way too much to ask for a complete retelling of Stokers work that would include the history of the man known as Vlad Tepes. Save your money. Not recommended.
