- DJKVery reliableI've been using Block for my tax software for years. Not sure if it's better than others but it works for me. Sometimes the software seems a little glitchy but nothing terrible. Very well laid out questions so it gets all the info it needs. RECOMMENDED.
- Trusted C.Installs and Runs GreatThis actually downloads and installs as two completely separate programs: Premium and Business. I am here to tell you both of them downloaded, installed, and run great on my Windows 7 computer. No errors, no problems. There is a warning generated (on my Windows 7 machine) whenever the Business program is launched telling me I need to upgrade to Windows 10 (see screenshot). But if I ignore the warning, there are no problems going through the Federal interview in either program.
Of course, not all the forms are there in mid-December since the IRS and state agencies haven't even finalized many of them yet. But the Premium program tells you this in a big warning box (see screenshot), so it shouldn't be a surprise. Just wait until early January.
Most of the reviews before mine said the programs are buggy or didn't install correctly. Maybe one or two of them did have problems based something specific to their computer. Maybe some of them were paid to give negative reviews. Who knows? But the programs certainly can't as broken as they claim from my view. - BuyerFix the bugs!!Bought HRB Premium and Business to try to get a head start on personal and business taxes. If you are not familiar with the package, the download (no disk) installs two different software programs. One, the "Premium" package and separately, the "Business" package. I spent some time with the "Premium" software for my personal return and it seem to load, inport and work fine (on two compters, Windows 7 AND Windows 10), including complex situations with K1s. However, the "Business" package made it a total waste of money. The Business package only loads on WIndows 10 (like the requirements state), but simply would not find or import prior year's Turbotax and provided no helpful information to try to import. The Premium package stores the return in the Documents folder. After hours of searching on the computer and internet, it remains unknown where the Business return is stored unnecessarily adding to the complexity and difficulty of copy and protecting the actual return. Because the Business portion can't find last year's Turbotax or import it, I'll be claiming a refund from HRB and have to go back to Turbotax.
Update: December 23, 2023
I have updated the software several times since it was purchased, and most recently this past week. HRB Business still won't recognize or import from prior year TT tax return. Although the listing states "Quickly import ... last year's TurboTax" it has no function that allows that instead generally stating it can't find last year's HRB tax program.
Update: January 6, 2024
I give up.
1. Still will not recognize or import last year's TurboTax business return forcing the user to re-enter almost all of last year's tax data to start a new return. Unacceptable for a product that advertises importing last year's tax data as being as "simple as drag and drop."
2. Does not "create" IRS acceptable 1099-NEC forms. Unless electronically filed, 1099-NEC forms must be printed only on IRS' issued 1099-NEC original, scannable forms. The HRB software prints the entire form, instead of merely printing the required fields on the IRS issued scannable forms, thus printing a form that is unusable for paper filing with the IRS.
3. Refunds under the "satisfaction guarantee" MUST be requested within 60 days of purchase, so if you buy early thinking you can engage in tax planning, you can't even wait until all of the software updates are done, to decide if you want to request the refund.
From the HRB website:
If you are dissatisfied with the H&R Block tax preparation software for any reason before you file your return, H&R Block will refund the full purchase price you paid H&R Block or its authorized reseller for the software, exclusive of shipping and handling charges, taxes, and less any rebate you receive on the software.
You must notify H&R Block of your dissatisfaction and the reason for your dissatisfaction with the software within sixty (60) days following your initial purchase of the software, and you must mail the original media or the original UPC code from the box and a copy of your original store receipt to H&R Block, postage prepaid, to this address: H&R Block Money-back Guarantee, P.O. Box 32110, Kansas City, MO 64171
Update February 5, 2024
It's been a month now since I uninstalled the software and sent my written request for refund to H&R Block, meticulously following the instructions (above). Regrettably, I have not received the "guaranteed" refund. - QualityReviewer2009The Business Program tends to crash when doing successive file save, restore or other routines.I have been using HR Block for years when practicing law and accounting and now a retired attorney CPA, and it usually works well and is a good value, but this Business software is buggy and crashes if I follow instructions to restore or replace and then start the software and a return. the work around is to do one thing at a time and even if it prompts you to open a restored program, do not do it. Close out everything and open it separately in a fresh start. Also sometimes when it does not have all of the forms, it will crash during the install of new ones, so you have to start over, and pick up where you left off to get the lost forms. Apparently it can only update and install a limited number of forms at each time. Unfortunately I cannot find any tech support for a bug fix, so I am writing here in the hopes they can mitigate the bugs. I found that save, back up and exit and enter again to finish a routine, even printing to pdf, is safer and avoids the crash.
- LarryA great value for any small businessI have used HR Block tax software for years. I have always been satisfied with the software. This is actually TWO separate programs; one is for personal taxes and one is for my small business (Dragon Design Sales LLC) which I just started. Through a simple question and answer format it configures the return with all of the necessary corresponding forms.
The price is a great value.
The quality is great.
The service is not extremely knowledgeable, but they are courteous and will research the issue if they do not know the answer immediately. They will take as much time as needed and will not brush you off.
I recommend this for any small business. - Sharon S Gunningtax softwareCan get it downloaded and working in about 30 minutes. Awkward to use but so are they all.
- ShaGreat for the needWorked just as expected.
- JPbest tax software I've foundSimple to use. I assume its accurate...the IRS hasn't come after me yet! I've used HR Block for years. Just for kicks, I tried TurboTax and Tax Slayer last year as well. Both were more complicated to use. They also both wanted me to pay quite a bit in underpayment penalties as a 1040ES filer. HR Block recognized I met requirements of paying 100% of previous year taxes, so there was no penalty.
