5.0 out of 5 stars Great, tiny, clicked-aperture, manual lens

If you're looking for a lens that will make your small fuji X camera as small as an X100, look no further. This is a very tiny lens with a satisfying clicked aperture ring and a silky smooth mechanical focusing mechanism.

It is extremely well constructed out of metal, looks gorgeous on the camera and is fun to use. Focusing is easy with Fuji's focus peaking or magnification features. Image quality is on par with most vintage lenses. In other words, good enough for most people.

Ive tested this lens agains the Fuji 27mm 2.8 and 35mm f2. It has a more classic rendering which I love. Super slim form factor. Quality is exceptional !! SOLID!! A++

4.0 out of 5 stars For $64? A Lot Better Than You'd Expect. Lots of Flaws, Though.

It seems while other people have had copy variance issues, my copy of this lens focuses correctly when set to infinity focus and is pretty damn sharp wide open considering what it is and it's price. There is a quite heavy vignette wide open at f/2 and the image can get pretty easily washed out from strong light sources in, or just outside of the frame (though this gets slightly better as you stop down). F/4 is a sweet spot in terms of sharpness and overall image for subject photography with some background separation. Unfortunately, it doesn't make for a very good landscape lens at all due to the corners of the image frame being blurry, even stopped down to f/8, and there is some somewhat noticable barrel distortion if you have straight lines in your frame.

Fortunately, there isn't a strong color cast, though colors need a little bit of booting either in post or in camera. I find the build quality to be fine considering how small it is. It is true that the aperture ring is very thin and close to the focus ring, but I personally got used to it rather quickly. I initially accidentally ordered a Sony mount version of this lens, which had a feeling of grinding as I turned the focus ring, but the Fuji X version that I now have has no such issue and there is an adequate amount of resistance in the focus ring. Again, I suspect it to be a copy variance thing.

Overall, an enjoyable and small little walk around lens if you aren't necessarily looking to do portfolio work or you're okay with stopping down quite a bit for optimal results, and even then stilly having blurry image corners. It makes my X-E1 like an interchangeable-lens X100. You need to remember that you're literally paying $64 for the lens so you should manage your expectations and keep them reasonable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Well Built Pancake Lens
Reviewed in the United States on February 15, 2024
Almost pocketable, this is a very well built metal lens. Super smooth aperture and focus rings. I bought this after watching a YouTube video just to see if it could be anywhere near as good as was described.

It is.

If you're looking for a lightweight travel lens or just don't want to be weighed down by a larger prime or zoom, this is your lens. If you're going for the retro hipster look, this will work too.

Great lens. Wonderful flares, very easy to adjust infinity focus. Really light. I love TTARTISAN lenses so this might be biased. Gonna be using them for video.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not overwhelmed TTArtisan 25mm f2 Fuji X mount

Of course this is an inexpensive lens and I probably had too high expectations.

The good, it’s very compact, well built and all metal.

The not so good, focus ring dampening isn’t adequate, aperture ring is too thin and too close to the focus ring. If you focus wide open and try to stop the lens down it’s difficult to not knock focus. Also when focusing when you remove your fingers from the focusing ring it’s almost impossible to not knock the focus off. Definitely not dampened enough.

I’m a retired master commercial photographer and worked 55 years. Im used to quality glass. I’m still trying to decide about image quality. I find it a bit hard to focus even with focus peaking but feel optical quality is a little lacking. Im not expecting Zeiss quality but don’t think this will deliver a reasonably sharp image for anything larger than an 8x10 print.

I’ll give it more time but at this point I’d say it’s just OK as a snapshot lens.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing street lens!

You can find my review of this lens, along with its 50mm brother on that red arrow video site under the name "Camera Carnage". Bottom like is this is one of the great bargains in manual lenses. Construction is great. Tactile sensation on the aperture and focus rings is smooth and excellently damped. Optically it's very good. I really enjoy shooting this on my FujiFilm bodies. The stop on the focus ring is adjustable, which is nice in case your setting at infinity isn't quite perfect. Some people don't like the spin-on lens cap, but I appreciate how much space it saves, and how secure it is. The extra effort to take it on and off isn't a red mark for me. Focal length is perfect in my opinion for street photography, and the infinity focus is at an excellent distance for zone focusing. I love this lens so much that I am probably selling my XF 27mm f/2.8 AF pancake and replacing it with this.

4.0 out of 5 stars My experience is that it is awesome for the price!

It seems that there's a bit of "play" or laxness in sampled for review? Overall, my experience has been on the good side. Focusing is great. Sharpness is great. Unfortunately, the copy I ordered from Amazon got lost and another sample I ordered from elsewhere to hedge my bets didn't. Guess it was destiny. Ultimately, I wanted a X100V but that became a fiasco due to TikTok. So I figured this lens plus an old XT20 would have to do as "pocket" camera. I think it'll do!
