Good home router

I have used ASUS routers for decades. This model is very good and has many up to date features, including multiple VPN client and server options, QOS, etc. I use mine as the gateway router for our 1200 sq ft apartment with an Xfinity gateway in bridge mode. I alternately use the host and client VPN capability. The wifi coverage is excellent, the 5GHz and 2.4Ghz reach all rooms with good throughput in spite of all the interference from adjacent apartments. The iphone app is pretty useful and the browser interface is very complete.

This model replaced a TP-Link AC1750 router as it had become problematic over the past year. The issue was de-linking from devices on my network. Research here and at other well-known review outlets led to this device. I had considered a far more expensive model, but remain glad that I chose this one. My 5GHz wireless signal tripled my download speed over the TP-Link model. It looks like either a brand or a generational improvement. So far, one week into heavy use with large volumes of data transferred for media applications, the router performs beautifully. Even the large screen TV has an improved image.

Good router

Other routers I’ve had have always given me connection problems. The whole turn it off and back on again was like a daily thing and super annoying. I’ve had this router for about a month now and zero problems on that end hope I don’t jinx it. My main uses are streaming shows and movies and sometimes gaming. Even the speed is better with this router. A lot less lag. It’s been good to me so far. No complaints.

Easy installation and setup

I received the router yesterday. The installation of this router was easy. Just follow the instructions and go step by step for each function. I use the router to connect to the internet through my cell phone by usb connection. I used my old SSID information and changed the default gateway IP address to avoid reconfiguring my attached devices.

Got rid of Spectrum because tv in bedroom kept disconnecting from Wi-Fi. Went from 20 to 300 on signal.

Inconsistent operation, Not impressed, trouble getting access. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY

I have a number of computers all hooked up by LAN. The ASUS RT-AX5400 will not give internet access to all of these computers. Some get internet access and others do not. Some will get access one time but not permitted the next time, or will be identified with "Connected without internet access". It is very random. Router recognizes all the computers and visa versa. However, a couple computers cannot get internet access. All drivers are up to date. As far as wireless capability this seems to work the same as the Ethernet. Some items get internet access and others don't.
Next issue is that one of the antenna's broke where it goes into the base. Wire is still attached but it now just hangs there.
Called ASUS support and after telling me to reboot a few times and check to be sure my drivers are up to date, they basically they said they could not help me, Good by!

Update: This is not officially the worst router I have ever had re booted and couldn't even get direct Ethernet lines to work even after many, many multiple attempts. DON'T BUY THIS ROUTER

Final update. I threw it away.
