5.0 out of 5 stars Better than expected!

This was a nice surprise as the setup was easier than described, i.e., monitor and camera were already synced and ready to use out of the box. Everything works perfectly, and I can use it when hitching truck to trailer, or on the trailer itself when backing into a campsite. Very pleased with heavy duty solid camera, padded magnet backing and signal strength between the camera and monitor. Monitor is crystal clear and menu/controls are intuitive and simple to use. Well done DoHonest!

I bought this camera system primarily to use with our 26' Grand Design Imagine XLS 22MLE that we pull with our 2005 Toyota Tundra Access Cab. Shipping was very fast. We received the camera less than 24 hours after we placed our order.

My most important requirements were:
- Low cost: sub-$150 price
- Upgradeable to at least 2 cameras
- Ability to quickly experiment with camera placement
- At least 6hrs of run time

My Use Cases:
- Eliminate large vehicle "passing surprises" while driving
- Awareness of tailgaters when driving
- Hitch-Ball Placement when approaching the Travel Trailer with the truck

We were not looking for this camera to provide a completely real-time rear-view mirror experience while trailering. If this is what you need, be prepared to spend $500 to $1000 for your camera system.

The DoHonest system was well packed with the display, camera, and hardware & wiring physically separated from each other to protect from damage (see picture). The camera assembly with its battery and strong magnetic base is fairly heavy and its threaded coax antenna mount poked through the rear of the carton. Putting a protective cover over the antenna coax would be a good idea as its threads showed some signs of scuffing presumably caused while it was poking through the box during shipment.

Setup was very straightforward. Be sure to fully charge the camera battery before using it. Many camera systems have 7" displays. The display provided with this camera system is a 5" display. I have found that I like the smaller display. It is surprisingly light weight and I don't worry about a "rapid unscheduled separation" from the dash or the windshield while I'm driving. I also like the USB port on the 12vdc cigarette lighter plug. If you only have one 12vdc port you will still be able to power another device, like a mobile phone.

I mounted the camera's magnetic base to the top of the trailer's metal 4"x4" rear bumper. The magnets are very strong (as can be attested by my pinched fingers), but I decided to and a Velcro strap for just a little more security while going down the road (see picture).

While parked, I had a very strong signal from the camera to the display. While driving, I noticed that the display would hesitate and become laggy, and even completely lose the camera signal from time to time. This behavior was most pronounced driving in town and also when my truck was accelerating or pulling up a long hill. Based upon what I have observed, it appears the reception interference is caused by other radio frequency signals (2-way radios, business alarm systems, and even the spark plug noise from my truck's engine and engines of the other vehicles around me on the road). I was still able to use the camera to "see" vehicles approaching from the rear while driving. I continued to do some more experimentation with display placement. Moving the display high on the truck windshield, just under the rear view mirror has eliminated 80-90% of the my issues. I originally had the display on the lower left of the windshield (see picture) and the radio signal line-of-sight was through the appliances in the trailer. My 12vdc refrigerator may have been responsible for most of the interference.

The camera also proved very useful while backing the trailer. While this was not one of my primary requirements (I have lots of experience backing large trailers), the camera gave me just a little more assurance that the area was free of obstacles. The IR feature worked very well while backing in low light situations, as well (see picture).

This camera system meets all of my needs. At $110 to $160 I find this camera system to be good value for the money. In my opinion, most signal dropouts when driving can be eliminated by giving some thought to placement of the display and its line-of-sight to the camera (minimizing signal travel through metal objects and running equipment). Be sure to register your unit and you can select a free gift, including the option for a second camera. I plan to position the second camera on the lift-gate of my truck to assist in backing and correcting positioning the hitch ball under the trailer tongue (see pictures).

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect option
Reviewed in the United States on May 4, 2024
This is a great and simple option - no wired needed for signal or power. It has a built in battery that can be charged with a USB Type C cable and a solar panel on top of the camera.

It's a great setup that can be moved around and doesn't need any holes drilled anywhere. Everything works well - the setup was fast and easy.

The camera has been through several rainy days and is fine - it has a wide field of view and the signal strength is 4 bars at about 12 feet from the monitor. The night vision is good - you can also adjust the contrast, brightness, and flip the image on the monitor. I can make out fine details on the monitor - things aren't blurry.

I really am glad I found this as an option - I'm using to keep an eye on a large area, but can also put it on my vehicle for a backup camera - it has a magnetic mount on the base.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sharp Video, Great Wireless Range, Easy Set-Up
Reviewed in the United States on October 25, 2023
Purchased this back-up camera system to add extra rear-view vision safety for towing our kids’ 15-foot camper behind our 23’ Airstream Interstate motorhome for a family camping trip. We needed this because, with the camper in-tow, the motorhome’s built-in rear-view camera was partially looking at the top of the camper. This camera, with its padded rubber base, was easy to attach to the rear hitch of the motorhome to simplify docking the hitch with the camper, and just as easy to detach and relocate onto the camper’s bumper for the drive.

The picture quality was exceptionally clear, with the wireless signal going seamlessly all the way from the back of the camper, through both rigs (yes, with refrigerators running), to the video screen on our front windshield. Picture clarity is great (even at night) and the parking grid lines were nice for backing and positioning. Streaming was in near-real-time and quite comfortable, with a small bit of lag, as would be expected from a fully-wireless system.

The camera’s battery is stated to offer ~12hrs of service per charge. We didn’t use it quite that long and had no issues with longevity, even without recharging. One-touch-on, then one-touch-off between uses.

The camera’s magnet mount was strong and remained firmly in place without any type of reinforcement. Its rubber base left no marks on either vehicle. The suction cup for the video screen also remained strongly secure for the drive, and has a lever for easy installation and removal.

We were glad to have selected this camera system for the trip. Easy to mount, easy to operate, exceptional clarity, good performance, nice features.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Camera for a horse trailer
Reviewed in the United States on January 16, 2024
I got this camera to use inside my horse trailer so I can make sure my young horse handled his first trip okay. I used it for a 7 hour road trip and it was perfect. I never lost the signal and the battery lasted the whole time. This is priced just right. All the other "horse" trailer cameras I found were 3 times the price. The night vision works great. The magnet is super strong. You have to use to hands and some muscle to get it down. It never moved an inch. It has its own monitor so you don't have to worry with an app or your phone. This camera is extremely easy to use and requires little to no set up. It also has a split screen so you can use 2 cameras at once if you like. I highly recommend this to all my horse friends.
Oh and they give you a free gift with purchase. I chose a 2nd camera and it arrived before I even returned from my trip. What a great company and a great camera for your horse trailer.
