5.0 out of 5 stars You can escape kids+ setup and control icons displayed
Reviewed in the United States on May 24, 2024
I was really leery about buying a kids fire tablet because so many 1-3 star reviewers said parents had no control over apps displayed and main display was too cluttered with apps. However, after shopping for Android tablets (way more expensive or reviews showing poor battery life, no 2 year child proof insurance, devices dying unexpectedly for no good reason), I decided to chance buying a kids fire tablet despite the many warnings from the 1 to 3 star reviews that mentioned lack of control over home display icons, constant ads popping up, inappropriate ads, inability to use an app without new apps popping up and auto downloading.

I was able to escape setting up kids+ by pressing back arrow vigorously over and over very quickly every time tablet asked me to give permission to set up kids+ and charge me after trial period was over. I did not want kids+ and I did not want to remember 6 to 12 months later to cancel kids+ and get charged monthly. Somehow, some loophole emerged and I was able to escape from setting up kids+.

After I set up parental controls to remove most features except apps and games (I needed this to stay active since I bought the device mostly to use to use it for Libby library app for read along books so my child would stop asking for my phone so she could listen to read along books and my kindle fire would not install Libby and kindle would not install Libby either).

After parental controls was used to turn off unnecessary content (for a 4 year old) I was able to dump apps I didn't want a child to see into the utilities folder to hide them. My home display now only has a handful of icons. I turned off wifi (and parental control is required to turn it back on) after read-along books were downloaded and she is happy listening to and looking at her read along books, free from the local library.

Also there is a setting to turn off inappropriate ads not suitable for all ages so even if wifi were on, it would hopefully only show appropriate ads. So far, no ads have shown up on the kids fire tablet (although that may be because most of time on it is on the Libby app). I'll come back and post more after some educational games are downloaded to see how bad that is compared to reviews.

Storage: after downloading about 20 read along booksand Libby app, still had about 7.4Gigs left.

RAM: 2gb is less than most android phones have these days so if you want speed, this is not the device for you.

Touch to wake: there is no double click on touch screen to wake mode so you'll have to press the on button every time screen goes dark (pretty annoying).

Water in USB c port: there is no flap to cover the USB c port so I can see how people can get water in it by accident (especially with little kids around). However most covers probably would break off in a few days for such a tiny port.

5.0 out of 5 stars The guarantee is guaranteed

So yeah, it's a little slow at times. And yeah, maybe the battery life isn't THAT great (but it's not terrible). However, that two-year guarantee makes the purchase so much worth it. I got my tablet because it was on sale. I'm pretty skeptical on these tablets because usually yeah, they're pretty slow. I bought it for my autistic son, so of course the wear and tear can be a bit above average. He cracked the screen a few weeks ago, and I completely forgot about the warranty. I contacted customer service, and it took a little time, but they give you two options: ship them the damaged product and they'll send you a replacement for free.
OR you can pay a fee (mine was $15) and they go ahead and ship you a new one and give you 30 days to ship the old, damaged one.
Needless to say, I will gladly pay $15 for a retail $109 broken tablet. The warranty alone made this product well worth the purchase.

As for the product itself, it's really not as bad as some people make it out to be. The battery life lasts pretty well, and my 3-year-old enjoys it regardless. He's pretty patient with its speed and a microSD takes care of the lack of space (literally just buy any old microSD, I got a decent sized one for like $20).

All in all, for a younger kid, I think it's well worth the price and functionality.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for road trips

The display quality is exceptional. We bought this for our two-year-old son to have on road trips or the plane. Whether streaming movies, reading e-books, or browsing the web, the vibrant colors and sharp resolution make everything look fantastic.

The tablet's performance is impressive as well. It's fast, responsive, and handles multitasking with ease. Whether switching between apps or playing games, I never experience any lag or slowdown.

One of the standout features of this tablet is the access to Amazon's vast content ecosystem. With Prime Video, Kindle Unlimited, and a wide selection of apps and games available through the Amazon App Store, there's always something new and exciting to explore.

I also appreciate the durability of the tablet. It feels solid and well-built, and the battery life is excellent, easily lasting me through a full day of use.

Overall, the Amazon Fire Tablet offers incredible value for the price. It's versatile, powerful, and packed with features that make it perfect for everything from entertainment. I highly recommend giving this tablet a try.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Durability - Could use some updates
Reviewed in the United States on May 2, 2024
Overall this has been a great product for our 2 year old son! He can drop it or throw it and there won't be any damage to the screen. I also love that the case has the fold out handle that can be used for him to grip the device easier or prop it up somewhere. Battery life is also great!

A few things that I wish could be updated: you can't view an app on the device to get a description before downloading - when you click on it, it just immediately downloads. Also there isn't a way that I have been able to find to block certain YouTube channels or videos. Because of this, we download videos or shows we are okay with him watching and then switch the device to airplane mode so that he cannot watch ones that we haven't downloaded.

We didn't need anything fancy just durable to withstand a toddler so he stops trying to take and use our phones. This is greatly priced, super durable, and well worth it. I love all of the parental control and the ease of using this product and home it connects from our Amazon account. I can't wait for our little one to grow and love the many different options for my child as they grow. It is perfect size has withstand many slips and drops already. We have had no issues with performance or capability of network or programs. I was iffy about buying this product but it has been well worth it for us. Also comes with a great initial entertainment package free trial.
