I'm a wine professional, and take my word for it - this is a really excellent little wine tool to keep handy. Here's why I like it:

1. Effectiveness. First and foremost, it does the job. This is a huge time saver for serving red wine - I don't need to decant a bottle for 30 minutes before I drink it with this baby. I do find that if I want more aeration than about 30 minutes in a decanter provides, I need to either run it through the aerator multiple times (annoying if you're not into using a funnel to get every drop of wine back into the bottle to aerate again) or give my glass some extra swirling - easy enough, and standard with any aerator. And honestly, I usually find 30 minutes of decanting is enough for most wines; the wine will continue to evolve in the glass, and I like to enjoy the experience.

2. Simplicity. The aerator is designed to split the stream of wine into multiple smaller streams as you pour, exposing more of it to oxygen and speeding along the breathing process. This "opens up" your wine quickly and efficiently, without needing any other bells and whistles that would make it more difficult to clean.

3. Presentation. The spout is plastic, which makes sense at this price point but which I initially thought felt a bit cheap. As soon as I popped it on a bottle and started to pour, however, I saw that the wine stream actually looked just as lovely as it does in a glass spout. Visually, it definitely adds appeal without all the pomp and circumstance (and difficulty cleaning) a decanter provides. A nice touch.

4. Size. I owned a few aerators before this one, but none were as small and therefore portable as this one. It's a great party trick to pull it out of your purse to accompany the bottle of wine you brought, and it's handy for vacations as well. (What vacationer doesn't need wine?)

I do want to be clear that as a wine professional, I did receive this aerator for free - but this review is fully honest and I'm writing it because I truly think this a great tool to have in your wine cabinet arsenal.

All that said, I wholeheartedly recommend this aerator, especially for those that don't yet have any aerating tools (or those who own a decanter that they never use because they shudder to think of how annoying it will be to clean). This is a no-fail, can't mess it up, great little tool for any wine lover, but I especially recommend it for those who are newer to wine or are looking to elevate their experience without too much fuss. Not only do you get one aerator for a great price, you get two! I have enjoyed using my TenTen Labs wine aerator. It has really enhanced the flavors of my wines. It's super easy to use and has a great lightweight design! I love that I can see the bubbles once poured so I know my wine has been aerated. Note: it didn't fit super snug in my screw top wine bottle (neck is wider), but works great for cork bottles. I still recommend this aerator!

Both aerating and decanting expand the surface of wine, allowing it to mingle with air. This seems to soften and mellow a lot of red wines (it can help some white wines as well). Red wine can have sediments, which decanting allows to settle; this aerator won’t separate sediments, as it doesn’t have a screen (advantage: decanting). On the other hand, decanting takes time; you may not want to wait half an hour of more for your wine to ‘open up’ before you drink it (advantage: aerating). All of this also depends on the wine, so there are a lot of caveats, but this product does what it’s supposed to do: it mingles the wine with air as you pour it, making it more aromatic and/or softer.
Try it for yourself: pour your favorite not-very-old (that’s one of the caveats: an older wine at its peak won’t benefit from aeration because it’s fully developed) red from the bottle straight into a glass, and sip it. Pretty good, right? That’s why it’s your favorite. Now pour about half the bottle into something – a pitcher will work fine – grab a second pitcher and do a little ‘DIY aeration’ by pouring the wine back and forth several times between the two containers. Do this about a dozen times or so; make sure the wine really froths when you pour it back and forth, to mix a lot of air in. Sip it now; I’ll bet it’s even smother and mellower. You didn’t know it was THAT good, did you? That’s all aeration is, and this little gadget does that for you straight from the bottle.
There are fancier, more sophisticated aerators on the market, but this one gets the basic job done; it’s certainly worth the price.

The price point for 2 aerators is great, but after only a couple uses and trying to wash it with soap, it looks like soap bubbles got trapped inside the plastic. I rinsed, soaked, rinsed with clean water and could not get the soap out. It's probably OK to use but not great to know there may be some soap in my wine...

Decent product but there must be better ones out there at both aerating as well as not having gaps within the plastic
