5.0 out of 5 stars Not Compatable with Kindle Fire! - Updated Version 1.0.2 works!
Reviewed in the United States on November 14, 2016
Update 12/12/16 - The newest version 1.0.2 is now working on my Kindle Fire 7 (2015) - my kids have started playing the game and it seems to be the same high quality math game I've come to expect from the Dragonbox Apps. All of my kids ages 4-10 enjoy playing, but it seems perfectly suited for my younger two (ages 4 and 7). Dragonbox has a way of making math fun and easy to understand. I appreciate the Dragonbox team responding to my inquiries and updating the app.

I was excited to purchase Big Numbers as I have all of the other apps put out by this company and my kids love them. They are really high quality learning apps. However when I purchased the app and tried to set it up for my kids, it kept crashing. I uninstalled and reinstalled with the same problems. When I contacted We Want To Know about the problem via their Facebook page, I was told the app is not supported by Kindle Fires. If this is the case, then why is it sold on Amazon and marked as compatible with my device? I hope they make a Kindle supported version soon, as I do have their other apps on my Kindle, but until then, Kindle owners be warned.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great game to learn big numbers operations
Reviewed in the United States on October 7, 2024
My daughter (8) really liked it. The great thing is that the math is embedded in the game, and not presented as unrelated questions that one has to solve in order to keep playing, like most of the other math apps. A great job all around - the graphics, sounds, and gameplay are very high quality.

The only minor issue is that at a certain point my daughter learned the drill and did the math on "autopilot". I though that it would be better if (only) at the higher stages of the game the helper parts (like the extra digit on top of the derivation) should be removed and ultimately the player should be forced to solve the problem in his/her head after learning how to do it on the page.

Really a great app, and a joyful experience. Thank you

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Early Math App - Works Great on Fire
Reviewed in the United States on November 19, 2016
I'm ashamed to say I've been bugging the Dragonbox people for quite a while to get this app ready for Kindle Fire. They got back to me this morning and said they had fixed the issues with it for Fire and it was okay to go ahead and buy it. If you purchased it before this update you should probably re-download it. I took it straight to my daughter and she picked apples in the Noom's apple field for almost 3 hours when her Kindle Fire HDX 7" battery went dead. We had no issues with it whatsoever. She said it was an awesome app and loves it even more than the first Nooms app. I've been watching her play and it's super cute! These people are real artists. It does simple addition and subtraction and also multi-digit addition and subtraction. It guides them on what to do each step of the way and if they mess up it will help them. They have to write in numbers with their finger sometimes and amazingly it accepts my daughter's sloppy handwriting. In the game you collect resources and trade them in for other things you need to unlock the rest of the game. They choose what to work on and there are a lot of things to do so they won't get bored with this. I can see this app taking a long time to complete.

I may update this review as we get further into it but you can't go wrong with Dragonbox. I just wish someone would have made an early reading app with as much attention and care as these people did with early math.

3.0 out of 5 stars Keeps crashing
Reviewed in the United States on November 19, 2016
For now, my review will be one star. I took a chance (since the only other review said it didn't work). I went through the Dragonbox website link to buy the app for the Kindle Fire. It took around 5 times to even get the app to install on the Kindle Fire and the Fire phone. The game did open but it keeps crashing shortly after. We haven't had a chance to play the game due to this. Hopefully they will fix this soon. We love the other Dragonbox games.

Update: The game seems to be working on the Fire phone now. However, it still will not work on the Kindle Fire (5th generation). It keeps crashing shortly after starting. It will not install at all on my Samsung Galaxy tablet.

1.0 out of 5 stars Crashes on the Fire 7 - No information about compatibility issues or restrictions.

Not sure what else to say. Crashes on the Fire 7. Works on the Fire 7 HDX. No information about compatibility issues or restrictions.

Now in addition to learning about numbers and math my children can learn about sharing. Who am I kidding, they are going to fight over the Kindle that can play the cool new game. (Kinda the reason I have 3 Kindles)

Thanks DragonBox guys!

4.0 out of 5 stars Dragonbox Big Numbers makes one mistake...guessing is allowed.
Reviewed in the United States on August 3, 2017
There is one problem with this product - it let's the child guess, which is especially problematic when it comes to subtraction. The mechanics are all there and done brilliantly...but kids can get away with guessing, and that is really a problem, no matter what the product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun learning for all ages
Reviewed in the United States on July 1, 2017
We love Big Numbers! All six of my children, ages 2 through 13, enjoy playing this game. I enjoyed it myself. The beginning is a little slow for older players, but the pace quickens soon enough. Younger players learn adding, subtracting, and writing numerals. Older players find challenge in using resources efficiently. Everybody loves picking apples and cracking rocks!

We Want To Know customer service is excellent. When this app first came out, it did not work on the kindle, but they were very responsive and released a working version quickly. They were happy to receive our bug reports and fixed those in another update.

I agree with other reviewers that this app is worth every penny.

5.0 out of 5 stars An app worth owning!!
Reviewed in the United States on January 20, 2017
Any app made by We Want To Know is worth owning, from Numbers to Dragonbox 12+. All of my kids, ages 4-14, love all of the games (yes, my 4-year-old understand algebra concepts!), and I love the brilliant ways math concepts are taught. Big Numbers is no exception. You gather resources and build lands, adding and subtracting everything as you go. The numbers get bigger and the problems more difficult, and it is all so natural that the kids hardly realize the difficulty increases--the next steps come naturally. Another nice feature is that the kids have to write the answers, at first guided by tracing a number, then on their own.

A fantastic app, worth every penny!
