5.0 out of 5 stars Nice cursive app
Reviewed in the United States on June 12, 2015
Since kids are no longer learning cursive in school except to sign their names, I wanted to find an app that gives my kids the opportunity to practice their cursive skills. I am happy with this app. It comes pre-loaded with several words for them to practice and also gives you the ability to enter custom words for them to practice (such as their names). There is a limit to the length of the words - for instance the word "grandfather" was too long. But that is really not that big a deal to me. My kids have used it quite a bit and I do see some improvement in their cursive skills since they've started using it. It sure beats having pages of paper lying around where they've practiced, or having to keep up with dry erase markers for the cursive practice boards.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well Thought Out and Customizable
Reviewed in the United States on April 4, 2016
I was skeptical about this app based on my research into several other types for teaching cursive, and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and available options. I did not notice any stroke order errors that some past reviewers have noted (this may have been fixed long ago and I consider that an indicator that the developers care about feedback). I did notice that some of the letters didn't have starter "tails" like the letter "R" the way I learned it, but this is not a problem with the app. The DN and ZB fonts don't have those "extras" that older parents remember learning.

Pros:
Customizable word lists
Customizable difficulty
More than one user profile option
Progress Reports for each user
Font Options (such as DN - which has the Q as the giant 2. And ZB - Q shape)
Interactive letters (my four and six-year-old especially like the items that "fall off" the letters)
Subtle (not too loud sound effects)
Tracing game
Proper Slant

Con: (very minor)

Cannot categorize letters by "stroke category" (ex. acdgoq all use the "ocean wave stroke" -- but you can achieve this by making a word list with those letters specifically)

In the tracing game, there are a few "stroke practices" missing in my opinion. For example, the wave for the "c" stroke (ocean wave) is the hardest to master. It would have been nice to have the "c wave" in the tracing section even though you can make a word list and connect "c" together for practice. It does NOT have approach strokes (letter u connected), over curve, under curve, or down curve. It DOES have tracings for "slant right", "horizontal/vertical", "hills and valleys", "roller coaster loops", and "circles". Again, missing stroke practice can be simulated by connecting letters together in the word list, but better to have them in the tracing section.

3.0 out of 5 stars not five????........

I love this app!!! It's so much fun for kids to play! I don't think that it deserves five stars.........it could use a bit more!!! It's a very nice game but I don't give it five stars because,it really needs more words, shapes and letters. But,it does have a lot of things!!! I like that it's not just letters. Kids can do their cursive writing letters and words. Then, they can do shapes. My kids and love to do the shapes!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for Homeschoolers
Reviewed in the United States on January 21, 2015
This is exactly what I was looking for! I needed something to help my homeschooled kids learn and practice cursive without spending a fortune on workbooks. This is a great option and the choice of fonts is a nice addition. I figured out that I want them to learn the "DN" font, the main difference being the capital Q looks like a large 2 and that's what I learned in school.

One strange thing, though; the way it puts a "child lock" by asking for the solution to a simple math problem won't stop my kids since they know how to do those problems. Most kids in America learn cursive starting in 3rd grade and definitely can add 13+9 by then. :) My suggestion to the developer is to change it to a passcode instead.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE, LOVE

LOVE,LOVE,LOVE!!!

This app is great because it requires the child/student to create the letters in the correct direction and shape. The problem I have had with traditional books and tracing sheets is that my son can trace the words, but it may not necessarily be in the correct way(unless I am sitting right there watching him the whole time). I like this because he can work on this independently and I can go back to review his work when he is done. The app will replay John's handwriting so I can see any mistakes and how closely his letters adhered to the guide.

1.0 out of 5 stars Incorrect Strokes
Reviewed in the United States on June 16, 2015
Nice idea, but cursive strokes are incorrect.

I am a third grade teacher who has taught cursive for years. I thought it would be a good ap for my child. As she started, I notice some strokes being taught wrong. Even some where you are lifting up your finger before the letter is done. I will not let her use this anymore. Waste of money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the Money
Reviewed in the United States on February 20, 2015
My son who is 10 loves this app. They stopped teaching cursive writing in school back in 2 or 3rd grade which is horrible. I want him to know how to sign his name and write in cursive. This app is really awesome. You can also put in your own words for them to practice writing as well and you get to write in crazy patterns and then they animate. My 4 year old daughter loves it too.
