5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent all-around lens!
Reviewed in the United States on January 5, 2020
This lens covers from wide (24mm) to tele (240mm) with excellent sharpness and color rendition. I know some reviewers have commented on vignetting at wide angles. This should be expected with a lens barrel as long as it needs to be for the 240mm end of the scale, but it is not as bad as they say. If you import into Lightroom, for example, and apply the standard Adobe lens correction for the lens, the vignetting almost disappears, and without losing much of the frame - due to the correction being applied for wide angle distortion.

Is this a "real" 24 mm wide angle lens? Of course not! It is really good, but if you need edge-to-edge sharpness without vignetting, you'll need a serious wide-angle prime or zoom lens. There aren't many available for the RF mount at this time, and most will set you back a lot more than this lens costs.

For what it is, a not-inexpensive zoom that covers the full range well, it is a great lens. It is not everything for every purpose. I still give it 5 stars, as I think it is an excellent buy for most enthusiasts. A pro would naturally want to add other lenses depending on needs, such as a true wide angle, a portrait lens, and/or a serious super-telephoto.

5.0 out of 5 stars Met expectations

A very useful and convenient general purpose lens - avoids the need to deal with multiple lenses for the EOS R series cameras. Some reviewers complain that this lens has excessive vignetting at 24mm wide angle in RAW. This lens was certainly designed to use post-processing software lens correction. With this in mind, Canon was able to provide an extremely versatile lens at a fairly reasonable price. Of course, it's not an L lens but I've found its sharpness to be much better than acceptable and its image quality very good when used with the lens corrections function in Lightroom. It compares favorably with my other high quality lenses.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful multi purpose lens

This is a wonderful lens. It solves having to buy too many other lenses for the new R series. If you use this and then the 100 - 500 mm Telephoto Zoom you have much of the sizes of the pictures you'll want to take. Only drawback is very low light won't work and you'll need to find something for that.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Travel or General Purpose Lens

This is a relatively lightweight lens with 10X zoom. Center is sharp, edges reasonably so. Wide angle curvature of straight lines at the edges and light fall-off are typical but automatically corrected in camera with lens correction turned on for JPGs and RAW files are easily corrected in post-production. Lightroom has a lens profile available that handles most issues. Some purple fringing in extreme situations is also correctable in post. See the included video for more info.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great accessory

This is a great accessory for an EOS mirrorless camera. It brings much more focus and clarity to my photographs. I have a longer field of depth range than I do with the lens that came with the camera. Easy to handle. Thank you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Stellar lens for all but (maybe?) the pros
Reviewed in the United States on August 23, 2021
Long story short: If you're the kind of person who just doesn't want to miss a shot and will use the camera's JPG 90% or more of the time, this lens is an absolute joy. The versatility is marvelous, the quality is fantastic, and you will capture so many moments perfectly that might otherwise simply be missed. I picked this up in lieu of a more traditional 24-105mm lens, so despite my primes and more dark/bokeh-oriented 24-70mm f/2.8 lens, this is often my daily walkaround choice with the 35mm f/1.8 in my pocket for darker scenes. And the pictures speak for themselves; it captures nearly every moment beautifully. Highly, highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE this lens!!
Reviewed in the United States on November 2, 2020
For what it's worth, I dropped my EOS R camera on a concrete floor a couple of weeks ago. (That will teach me to not carry the camera mounted on the tripod.) Luckily, the camera itself suffered no damage, but my 24-105 kit lens stopped working on manual focus, the stabilizer no longer worked, and it didn't fit on the camera as tight as it should. I'm retired and live on SS so these multi thousand dollar RF lenses are out of my reach. I saw the Canon 24-240 RF lens for $699. That would stretch my budget to the breaking point, but doable. I spent hours on Utube studying the lens, and was mixed in my feelings between the nay sayers complaining about the lens and sending it back, VS others saying it made a good all round lens. I finally bit the bullet and bought it. I couldn't be happier. The range is insane, and I couldn't ask for better quality in the images. Not only that, it's pretty light weight, and not bulky on my camera at all.
