5.0 out of 5 stars A great running watch!
Reviewed in the United States on June 7, 2024
This watch makes all the difference. I have been running on-and-off for 10 years now but have never really considered myself a "runner" until I got into it recently. I started training seriously and quickly realized that my Fitbit was not going to cut it. After doing some research, it came down to Garmin Forerunner 255 or 265. The 265 was $200 more due to its screen technology. This didn't seem worth it to me and so I got the 255 and I don't regret it!

This watch does everything I want it to. I ran a 3.66-mile trail race with it recently. Loaded the course into my watch, used TracePacer Pro to keep me on track during the race, etc. The whole experience was a great! This has changed my training, being able to load my running workouts prior to heading out the door. The GPS works great and keeps me on track on my interval runs, etc.

I can't recommend it enough!

5.0 out of 5 stars Gotta say, I'm a fan of Garmin again.

Years ago I got sick and tired of Garmin watch batteries failing after only a few months, and getting generally poor long term performance out of their watches. I switched to a Suunto Ambit 3 which lasted for... nearly a decade? Quite a while anyway. Then when that battery started to fail so I bought a Suunto Vertical. What an overpriced POS that turned out to be! So, lacking better ideas, I went back to a mid-priced Garmin. The 255 has been great. Battery life isn't really as long as advertised, unless I maybe have a bunch of features enabled that I don't care about but are draining the battery faster. Even so, I don't care, it lasts a couple days rather than X hours in one day, and that's good enough for me. The feature set is more than I need, it's reliable, it's easy to read in all light, the GPS tracks and HR averages are close enough for my purposes, and the charging cable actually connects and stays connected. No major complaints whatsoever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Does plenty.

Not touchscreen (I knew that), which is useful for swim workouts and overall screen non-smudgeyness. My priority here was to get just enough of the really important things: open-water swimming, multisport functionality, gps accuracy. Added bonus: can still control music. Potential con: still need to bring phone for music (but it usually comes with anyway). Love experimenting with the "body battry" (typo on purpose) features and suggested workouts. I expect this watch to hold out for a long time. Happy customer.

I really am enjoying this watch. I'll start off by saying it I used to have an Apple watch but no longer have an iPhone so I was looking for an alternative. I've used Fitbit and apple watches and feel they are accurate at tracking things like heart rate and GPS. This watch feels the most accurate out of both of those. The Garmin app isn't as pretty and easy to use as Fitbit but the quality and information is so much better. Also the customization of this watch is insane. From multiple backgrounds to the way you can set up what information you want to see during any given workout is awesome. As you can tell by my watch face there is a great amount of information just by looking at the first screen and more if you scroll around. This is the 46mm case size and I really think it's the perfect balance between being able to see the information and not being too bulky. Obviously the tranflective display is not as pleasing as an AMOLED display like and apple watch, galaxy watch, pixel watch, or Garmins own venu or epix watches but it honestly is not that bad. Also I've heard of bad backlight reviews on the Garmin watches where the screen looks washed out and blue when the backlight is on and I think I got a good one. It's almost been two weeks and I'm still at 67% battery life. I have yet to swim with the watch but it feels like good quality and the gps has been accurate on my runs. I was thinking of getting a Fenix 6 since they are much cheaper now but the features and less bulkiness of this Garmin Forerunner 255 sold me. The gray color is okay but I might end up going with a different band style and color in the future. The video taken with the backlight on is with the brightness at 20%. Take your fitness goals to the next level and get this watch!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Sports Watch
Reviewed in the United States on May 14, 2024
I started to take my fitness seriously and bought this watch mainly to track my swims and collect data. I chose the forerunner because had enough functionality to expand into other sports such as running and cycling. So far it has been extremely accurate in terms of counting laps, stroke count etc. I has only been off once by one lane and I swim about 3 times a week. And I haven't tried out the other sports functions.

The band is nice and doesn't chaff, the 46mm size faces isn't too big on me, even though I have pretty small wrist for a dude. And the battery life is great. I went two weeks without charging the thing. I have been pretty happy with it and don't regret my purchase. My only complaint is the screen is pretty dim even when it is lit up. Though if you have a bigger budget I would recommend getting an upgraded model for a better screen. It is totally workable, but you get what you pay for.

Great watch. I’ve owned Garmin running watches for years and this is definitely the best I’ve owned. Great data. Easy to use. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Durable, great battery life
Reviewed in the United States on June 28, 2024
I’m hard on my watches. They do not get special treatment, it’s a tool that lives on my wrist 24/7. This watch has been extremely durable, the battery life is so long it surprises me when it needs a charge. I use it for fitness tracking and use the GPS feature once a week on a run. More GPS use will obviously shorten the battery life, but it lasts exactly as advertised. I enjoy the lack of a touch screen and it took little time to adapt from my original venu sq interface. Well worth the upgrade. I prefer this watch as the bezel is full height to the plane of the crystal and the glass is subsequently well protected as it is strong.
