How can we reclaim the soul-deepening wildness that energizes us when so much of the modern world seems designed to tame us?

In this thrilling memoir of a life spent exploring the most incredible places on Earth—from the Great African Seaforest to the crocodile lairs of the Okavango Delta—Craig Foster reveals how we can attend to the earthly beauty around us and deepen our connection to all living things, whether we make our homes in the country, the city, or anywhere in between.

This audiobook version features exclusive content recorded by the author and original music composed by his son, Tom Foster. From the gentle lapping of waves on a sandy beach to the rhythmic clicks of cracker shrimp, each sound effect enhances the listening experience, transporting us to the heart of nature.

My Amphibious Soul All allows you to get inside the head of the brilliant filmmaker who made the documentary My Octopus Teacher. It shows a deep spiritual connection between the author and the sea.

I too was blessed with teachers who shared their wisdom, showing me how to be part of the whole thing, how to attend. Craig’s octopus taught him well. The message he sends us in this book, well, I wish everyone could read it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nature Nonfiction

Thank you to @dartfroggco and @harperonebooks for the complimentary book. These opinions are my own.

Amphibious Soul is by Craig Foster, a professional free driver and the documentary film maker of My Octopus Teacher. In this nonfiction book, he describes his journey to develop a relationship with nature and care for the ecosystem.

I especially enjoyed hearing his reminiscences about tracking, learning about animals, their intelligence and tool use, and their caring. My favorite parts of the book were the focus on animals, rather than the aspects about Foster's cold water immersion or how it is a metaphor for overcoming fears.

I found the book picked up momentum, and I liked it more the longer I read. It had a fantastic ending with takeaways of what his philosophy on the wild can mean to us all and our own relationship with nature.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good book

My Octopus Teacher is easily my favorite documentary. I hesitated to read this book because I thought it may be the filmmaker trying to make a little more profit from the popularity of the film. That wasn't correct. This book has nothing to do with the story of My Octopus Teacher. The book is an authentic take on a man trying to connect with nature. In this world, full of crap books of self development written by people with as much life experience as my house cat, this is much more refreshing. I appreciate the author's "masculine" approach to his take on embracing nature. This isn't forest bathing. He wants to feel the nature of his ancestors. He writes about experiences of swimming with sharks and swimming in freezing water with no wet suit. Entering a crocodile's den was one of the defining moments of his life. Maybe it's because I am also male, but I can appreciate this type of rawness of experience. I personally wouldn't go to such extremes but it gives a more candid understanding of nature. With the film and the book, it cemented a respect I have for the author and hope I can live a life equally connected to the world around me.

Craig Foster's book and the supporters he features are living the dream in the sense that the motivation for action is clear, and the actions limned both inspiring and effective.

Author is enthused by his ability to enter the mind of animals and marine insects. Maybe he can.
