So far I have not read any books on the mental game that can compare to The Inner Game of Tennis, until I read this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Advice!

I just finished this book after many months of reading a bit and having to stop and deal with life and health issues along the way. I plan to re-read it as many times as it takes to absorb every last morsel of wisdom provided. I have learned that it is OK to be confident in myself without feeling like I was being unrealistic. To dream of achieving my goal of a single digit handicap and shooting my age before I hit 80. Thank you Doc for your inspiration and insight into the transformation of the human mind from negative self doubt to positive dream progression.
If you are new to the game or an old hack, you can and will get something from this book. If you don't, then perhaps you are not willing to self evaluate and adapt these principles and should consider reading a phonebook instead.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential Ingredient for Success

I bought and read this book after finishing Mr.Rotella’s “Putting Out of Your Mind”. I’ve ordered and am looking forward to reading next “Golf is not a Game of Perfect.”

I’m a pianist, piano instructor, composer and publisher of instructional piano materials. I recognize success and excellence in teaching when I see it.

I’m persuaded that an element of “performance psychology” as presented by Mr. Rotella is necessary for optimal development.

In addition to my pursuit of golf and piano, I’m also working to develop from 3.0 to 3.5 to 4.0 and beyond as a tennis player. The principles of growth and improvement are the same for each endeavor.

I’d say that reading 100 on sports psychology would be way out of balance, just like not reading any would be out of balance. So, if you’re going to read 1, 2, or 3 or so books, I think you can’t go wrong with the publications of Bob Rotella.

We all need good golf instructors if we want to improve our golf game. We also need to spend a fair amount of time practicing the short game with as much intensity as we put into practicing the long game. However, if we want to be all we be we also need to improve the mental side of our game. Doctor Rotella is the answer and this book is a great place to start improving your mental abilities.

Listened also to golf is not a game of perfect and this was great too. Would highly recommend. Specially if you’re the angry type golfer. I’m not but still loved it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Somewhat of a disappointment

Like so many self help books (golf or whatever) the author spends 90% of the book talking what and why and maybe 10% for how. However, this said, I believe in the main theme of the book. I would apply cognitive behavioral therapy psychology techniques. These types of books need to focus on the HOW and in specific detail.
