5.0 out of 5 stars These are the binoculars I wish I had when I was in my 20’s …

Hi. My family has been using these compact Nikon binoculars to quickly get a closer look at the creatures that enter our backyard from the woods beyond. These are the glasses that are always out on our kitchen counter for “grab ‘em quick” access. We always leave the eyepiece caps/covers in place when the glasses are parked because they are easy to remove quickly (with the flick of a thumbnail to the centerpiece “squiggly” connector). I tell you this because it speaks to the overall quality of these binoculars and their ability to be handled frequent by many hands / multiple people. The rubber armor has a slightly nappy, texturized, surface that helps to make it secure to grasp and slip free. And when, and where, it counts, the armor is very effective at shrugging off frequent “pick them up and put them down” contact on hard (countertop) surfaces. It works well …

I find that the ergonomics of these Prostaff are fine for their price point. They fit comfortably “in hand” and are easy to adjust for different users. The (right eye) diopter, while slightly stiff to rotate, is aided by thumbnail friendly raised ridges on the adjustment ring. The eyepieces optics are wide at 22mm (my measurement) and provide a widescreen, relaxing, view. In total, the view they provide is both sharp and crisp and the optics’ color rendition is quite good for these Nikon’s modest cost.

The takeaway: As mentioned in my title, these are the glasses that I wish that I had in my early twenties when I spent a good amount of time with friends hiking, and camping, in the White Mountains of northern New Hampshire. These ruggedized, compact, binoculars would have made a home in a “quick access” side pocket on my pack. And, I’m confident, they would have survived their adventures. I feel that these Nikons provide a lot of value for their price and that they would … will … make a excellent gift that will be used for many years.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding quality and value

For very portable and versatile binocular, this was the best option of many. Sports viewing critical with a wide field of view to stay with movement (soccer) and easy adjustability for increased magnification. Great purchase and speedy delivery - much appreciated.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, wide angle Binoculars

Excellent for scenery and general purpose. Good "eye relief". Sharp image, lightweight.

I had another (very old) binoc which I gave to daughter/grandchildren. Also, currently have an Orion "10 x 50", which I dislike. It's OK for planet/moon gazing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Superb optics; not so good on an important detail

They are superb, and especially for the price. Extra-long eye relief, and I love that adjustment on the eyepieces, to just rest them on my cheekbones, excellent. And the right-eyepiece adjustment, though notably stiff, works very well.

HOWEVER, as it true of almost all binos, the lens caps are a pain. Why can't Nikon, or any other bino manufacturers, put a little more thought into attaching the lens caps to the body of the bino (NOT to the strap), so that they can be quickly flipped off and on?

Buy them, you'll love them, except for those annoyingly impractical lens caps.

Good “beginner” binoculars. They feel nice in your hands, are easy to adjust focus, and have a long range. I’m using them for bird watching and am very pleased.

The Nikon P3 binoculars diopeter adjustment was challenging to unlock, however it did unlock. The diopeter and focus adjustment are now working very smooth. This very near sighted person is enjoying a crisp clear view while using the Nikon P3 without wearing high perscription eyeglasses. They are great for nature viewing, light comfortable, perfect weight and nice non-slip when using.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good All Purpose Binoculars

This is the first set that I've owned personally, so I don't have a lot to compare them to. But I'm satisfied. I tested them out of my apartment window. I found them easy to adjust, even being a glasses-wearer. I was able to focus in on objects of different distances down the street, and they showed clearly. Objects in the sun were sharper than objects in the shade, but even the latter were clear enough. If you plan to wear them around your neck, they may be a little bit heavy for a long distance hike, but they'd be fine in a backpack. I did have some trouble figuring out how to attach the neck strap. I found a youtube video link in the Q&A section of this page that I found, which explains how to do it. Overall, these binoculars aren't fancy, but they're a solid option for a hobbiest going on a nature trip.
