5.0 out of 5 stars interesting - even if you're not an NFL fan

I bought this book for my husband. He is NOT obsessed with Brady or anything, but after he played with the Buccaneers, my husband really loved how he played and the shape he was in for his age.

My husband liked the gift, but hasn't really dug into the book yet. Me, on the other hand, I can't put it down. I didn't realize it was going to be a brief memoir. His story really inspired me and fueled my drive to improve my professional performance as well as treat my workout soreness differently.

I use to get lower back and glute pain when I hit the weights and cycling on the same day so I split them up - never cycling on a weight training day. After reading TB12 method and incorporating some of the foam roller exercises - I am feeling better than ever and I now can do a weight day and jump on my Peloton for a spin class without worrying.

The nutrition portion didn't teach me much since I already primarily follow a WFPB way of eating, but if you don't understand nutrition and how it impacts your body and brain, that portion is good too.

The chapter on hydration does a deep dive on water which was definitely informative.

I plan to incorporate pliability, but might seek out a trainer to get me started.

Overall love the book and as others have said, it is huge! Nice coffee table book, but this is one you'll actually read and benefit from.

5.0 out of 5 stars SHOULD BE REQUIRED READING FOR ALL COACHES AT EVERY LEVEL
Reviewed in the United States on February 6, 2018
This book is a summary of Brady's healthy life style and exercise routine. As a nurse practitioner trained as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, I found his beliefs to be pretty well grounded in science and commonly accepted practices and enjoyed the content. It is comprehensive and well-thought out. It's his way of telling his story and then thoroughly covering all aspects of life that lead to achieving a lifetime of sustained peak performance that makes it unique. If we all did what he suggests, we'd all be fit, healthy, and happier. If coaches followed these guidelines, we'd have less injuries nation wide. It should be required reading of all high school athletes and especially the coaches who still don't get it. It's totally worth the money because the concepts apply to all people, not just those who exercise or are athletes. His main point of adding pliability (lengthening and softening muscles) to your strength and conditioning routine is not a new concept but it is rather new to see a professional athlete embrace it so thoroughly. It really is one of the main secrets to his athletic longevity and all of us should add pliability exercises to our routines as well as follow his 12 principles. To discredit an earlier review - Brady does NOT say you have to go to one of his centers to achieve pliability. He discusses self pliability exercises, partner pliability exercises, and then professional therapists at his centers (which would probably be for the amateur and professional athletes or those who are really into this). There is a bit of a sales pitch tone to it though with some annoying repetitious phrases - but maybe the athletes need it drilled into them. It seems it was written so that you'd get the same couple messages with each page. He could have said the same stuff in less pages. I highly recommend starting this book with the conclusion on page 284 for a summary of what's to come. Move on to the middle and if you haven't had enough, then hit the verbose beginning chapters. There are a ton of good pictures to help with understanding the exercises and if you are a Brady fan you'll like his personal touch. I'm glad I got it and highly recommend it. If I had a kid in sports, I'd buy it for them no matter how young and read it with them. I'm ordering my husband his own book and I'm recommending it to all my friends. It's really that good.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pliability, nutrition, and hydration: the key insights of TB12
Reviewed in the United States on July 26, 2019
    Rating: 3.5 stars

I enjoyed large sections of this work, mostly the introductory materials and the sections on pliability, nutrition, and hydration. If you want to know about the key insights of TB12 and Alec Guerrero, I would say it has to do with the whole concept of pliability.

In general, it's the idea that to prevent injuries and to extend the lifespan of any active person, especially an athlete, but it applies to anyone who uses their muscles and brain in combination for any type of physical activity at all, ... is to extend/lengthen each and every primary and secondary muscle such that the muscle is no longer strained in it's activities and it can essentially almost never be injured or damaged in the course of normal use. It also helps for recovery and fitness and many other things, too.

The book is worth reading if you are an athlete, trainer, physical therapist, sports therapist, or Tom Brady fan. If you aren't, then you won't be able to finish it. It's very much a "how to" book, with lots of large photographs, diagrams, charts, lists, and recipes. It's a very good coffee table book too.

I read the hardcover, got it from Amazon at a very good price. I appreciated it, and may use it as a reference book. Keep in mind also that in some ways it's an advertisement for TB12, Tom's next and current (on the side) business venture. Expect this to take off for a time after he retires. It's an applied methodology that others are using (Gronk, etc.) which has been very helpful for some pro and amateur athletes. I may post/write more about the TB12 method in the future.

Not just another athlete’s workout book. I especially like the pliability section. I already feel a difference since implementing. Boom.
