About this item

Zander is in an auction house for the sole purpose of getting someone to sign a contract.

He doesn't have any interest in owning a blood slave—until he lays eyes on Max. That, he must have.

Max is there for reasons of his own, mostly desperate reasons, and he's braced himself for a year of hell, which doesn't seem to be forthcoming.

Someone needs to explain to this vampire that he's supposed to use Max, not spoil him. Zander doesn't seem to get it.

Tags: paranormal romance; blood slave contract thing, except Zander doesn't actually know how to own someone; I'm pretty sure he'd break out into hives if he couldn't spoil Max; Max has no idea what just hit him; he just knows he's somehow the responsible one, it's definitely not Zander; sexy times incoming!; Zander is a walking green flag; sass, so much sass incoming; light angst, mostly as an excuse for cuddles; stubborn to lovers; part-time soulmates, full-time problem; the whole story is just mindless violence and fluff; the summary really doesn't get across how much sex is in this but it's also not wrong; cinnamon protection squad, assemble!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderfully Expanded Story

I first read this in the Fated Mates Charity Anthology that was published a few months ago. I really enjoyed the story in that book and though it was a great ending to what was a great anthology. So often expanded short stories end up falling flat for me so I was a bit apprehensive when I started reading this. Let me just say, "WOW!" This version is incredible. It still has the humor and heart of the original but everything feels fuller. There is now more known about secondary characters, there is more known about the world and vampire society, and the MCs have had an added layers of personality and history added to them.

I loved reading this while trying to spot the changes, but they were woven so seamlessly into the entirety of the whole that they were hard to spot and they include little things from a sentance or to extra as an added detail, a small 2-3 paragraph insert with added detail into character behavior and feelings, added dialogues and internal thoughts that are amazing and might become new catch phrases, they are so perfect.

There is a lot of added drama and some new characters have been introduced. I hope for more about a lot of new characters eventually since I think their stories could be amazing.

Cute, but full of plotholes. Suddenly everyone is Buddhist, instead of making characters unique their mannerisms blended together. Good, enjoyable story. Cute and fun quick read.

I’ve waited until now to write a review. I’ve read both books and loved the both. Sometimes the first book is great but the rest fall behind in writing. I’ve found both of these books full of wit and humour with a great story behind it. The story flows beautifully and I really hope there are more in this series. A great read all round.

5.0 out of 5 stars such fun in vampire land!

I seem to remember that this was written as a short for an anthology Ms Sherwood was involved in. I later heard that she had written a “book one” and that this was actually “book two”. Book one will be out in early December.

I truly enjoyed this tale, and loved meeting Max and Zander, and hearing their story, and will enjoy reading Chase and Ronans book, along with Fernando and Noel’s. Now we’ve added two more fated mates to the group with the last part of our story.

It begins with Max being in a desperate situation that drives him to sell himself as a blood slave at a local auction. Zander is there because he’s chasing a business associate around, attempting to get some papers signed. Zander’s first look at Max, and he realizes Max isn’t meant for that kind of auction house, and that he wants him for his very own! And we are off from there! Such a fun read!
I think Max may have figured out that this was unlike anything he expected when instead of being used for a Vampires bedtime snack, he wakes up to breakfast being served to him in bed! That doesn’t sound much like how a slave is normally treated!! And it moves on from there. Hope you enjoy this story as much as I did! Can’t wait to read the next one.

3.0 out of 5 stars cute short story

This is the first book I have read by this author and I did enjoy it. I was confused why book 2 was out before book one but found out book one is a prequel. Side MCs from this one will be the main MCs for book 1. I wish they would have come out in order. I could have waited to read them in order but I didn’t so that’s on me.

Zander is a vampire and he finds Max at a blood auction. Zander is so sweet and sunshiny and just spoils Max like crazy! I loved how Zander referred to Max as “My Max”.

This was a quick sweet read. I liked it had duel POV. It was however not as steamy as the synopsis led me to believe. It was still an enjoyable story with fun characters.

What a fun read this was. I’ll be honest I thought this might be one of those quickly written books and it was going to be sorely predictable. It was not.

I loved all the snark and Zander was just a fluffy vampire until he wasn’t. I would have loved to have Vanessa’s demise but I’m a little blood thirsty that way!

Sometimes, you want a nice, somewhat uncomplicated, low angst tale with a touch of spice. This entry to the Fated Mated world is just the ticket.
AJ Sherwood does wonderfully snarky humor to add the icing on the cake.

I’ve read this book a few times now and find it wonderful each time. Despite being book 2 (or 3?) it was published first. This series can be read in any order but you’ll get the most out of the world building starting with book 0. This book is well written and can truly stand on its own. I love these characters and hope to get more from this world
