I bought this because my Focusrite interface kept dropping connection. I've tried just about all of the interfaces and stopped after getting this one. Here's why:
- More flexible ins and outs. I can plug in two XLR or 1/8" inputs, which most do, but I can control them much easier. But the control of headphones and stereo-outs is where the magic is. No more manually turning off monitors or searching through the settings.
- The Focusrite interface I had would pop my speakers any time it lost connection (which in the end was a lot). It did it every time I powered the computer on or off. The Presonus doesn't do that.
- The Focusrite interface sounded a bit warmer to me. Maybe even a bit muddy. The PreSonus is super clean. I don't mind this, because I can always change the sound in my DAW.
- Build quality. While the Focusrite was made of metal, it didn't feel as solid as the PreSonus. It's a tank.
- Software. I saw one review complaining about having to go to different places to download all the software. I guess that's a little inconvenient, but the software is great and there are a lot of useful plugins that are more premium than software packages from other companies.
- I never thought I would say this, but Studio One is legit. It's now my DAW of choice. Way less clunky than Ableton and FL Studio. It just works and works much more intuitively for me.
I highly recommend this interface.
