My picture shows this feeder on a raised tray, but that’s not something that came with the feeder, just so you know.
I’ve had this feeder for about a week now & it’s great. I use it for my cat. Honestly, my only issue is the need to precisely line up part #5, the tank base, in order to turn it & lock it back into place when reassembling it. I disassembled it easily enough for washing, but it took me some serious time to get it aligned properly when reassembling it. You REALLY need to look at it to understand which direction it has to be inserted, & to know the proper placement of it, BEFORE turning it in the right direction to lock it back into place. So pay attention! Go slow & make sure you’ve got it so you don’t force it & break anything.
I like that the food is sealed within the food tank to keep out bugs & other pets, plus keep it fresher. It’s great to have the transparent window in it too so I know when to add more. I saw a similar feeder in much lighter color, for less money, which had an entirely clear feeding tank. I like the black color of this feeder so it doesn’t look dirty, & experience has taught me that clear plastic scratches easily & develops a fog over time, losing its visibility so I really appreciate & prefer this design.
Definitely a learning curve where portions are concerned. It takes a bit of time to understand the portion amounts that the feeder puts out so you’re not over or under feeding your pet. And obviously, that will also vary according to the size of your pet’s food pieces, but I found giving a number 1 for portion size is about 1/4 cup of food. That’s what you see in the bowl in my photo. One serving of portion #1. (And just FYI, our food pieces DO fall within the size range the feeder manufacturers put in their product information.)
I love that I can feed a small amount of food multiple times a day too. Really helps to avoid illness due to eating large amounts too fast. We do portion size #1 in the morning, & at night, 12 hours apart so we are feeding one cup a day for my cat. Perfect!
The instructions are pretty good too. The digital display is easy to read & see both day & night. When programming there is also an audible tone to indicate moving on to the next step in the procedure. It’s AWESOME that the display panel locks so kids & pets can’t play with or mess up programming by bumping it. Great to have a battery back up when power goes out as well!
The metal food bowl is easily removed for regular washing as well as the attached bowl holder it sits in.
I can’t speak to the recording feature since I’m not using that, but my cat definitely hears her food falling into the bowl no matter where she is in the house. That having been said, it’s not so loud that it annoys me which is something I was concerned about with a metal bowl.
Last but not least, the slim design of the unit is great. As you can see in the photo, I’m feeding & watering my cat in a very small space about 16 inches square.
