5.0 out of 5 stars Good product for Quail but expensive in smaller bag

The nutrition in this crumble is good for starting quail, but unless you have a special case, I suggest you find a larger bag. It was a good bag to start the quail on, but as they get larger, a dozen quail will go through this bag in a week. The cost goes down quickly with bigger bags.
There is quite a bit of conflicting research on quail needs nutritionally. I am raising coturnix (Pharoah/Japanese) quail. The most reliable information (where a university tested different nutrition levels) I've found indicates to start with a protein as close to 24% until 6 weeks old. This starter feed has a minimum of 24% protein. At 6 weeks, you can drop the protein to 18% but for laying eggs or breeding, raise calcium to 2.75%. This is a starter feed so it only has 1.5 % calcium. For harvesting meat, you can drop protein to 18% and not worry about calcium. So if you found this cheap enough, you could stick with it for meat birds. Typically you'll switch to something with higher calories to push the growth though.
If you make your own feed, the protein is usually the most expensive cost. I have not experienced this when buying crumble - brand seems to dictate price more than anything else. Finding a layer feed with 18% is kind of difficult - so this gamebird starter is a good one to boost the protein in a layer feed. Again this starter doesnt have enough calcium for layers by itself.. For ease of storage, having a single feed with higher protein content (20s) could work, but for fastest growth and quicker to laying production, you want to start with something like this. The main result of low protein after hatching is smaller adult birds - which is likely more a concern if you breed for eating the meat. I have read the chick will mature slower too, but coturnix mature fastest of all quail, so if a hen lays at 9 weeks instead of 8, I don't really care but I do start with 24% any time I buy eggs to ensure I get best results from introduced strains.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ducks love it!
Reviewed in the United States on October 14, 2024
We recently ordered ducks and chose this feed for their little season. They eat is right up and so quickly! We haven’t had any issues with them seeming sick, having diarrhea or vomiting, or not wanting to eat. They enjoy the taste! One bag I ordered came ripped and I was able to contact Amazon for a refund of it. This bag on Amazon is way cheaper than the farm stores around town. The bag is little enough to make it easy to use and where my toddler (3) can pour the food from the bag and into the duck feeder. The color of the food is plain, but it works for the ducks.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great food but pricey

I used this for my brooder chicks, and they did well from it. It's just really pricey. They should offer larger bags at a better price. But the quality of food itself seems great, as I needed high protein starter for my jumbo quail.

I have been buying this for a while now,
this crumble food is yummy for my quails.
they like this a lot and grow up fast, plus have a lot of eggs,
I tried some difference food for my quails, but none of them work as good as this Manna Pro Crumble.
I think the nutrition in this crumble is accurate, and very good for quail breeder.

I could ferment the feed which made it last longer and the quails love it. The quails come to me every time I shake the plastic bag. Even though the size is small you could ferment it to last a little longer.

Thaw food is an all around excellent food with high protein and all the important vitamins and minerals. My Keets are now adolescents and growing remarkably fast. When they fletched the feathers are very healthy.

Some of it is to big for quail chicks. A flat board or rolling pin layed over a sandwich bag full of it & gently push & roll will break it up. Make sure bag is not sealed all the way so as to not pop it. Then survey to your chick. Make sure fresh water is always available.
