I read three to four books a week and I normally just review books that have blown me away. I try to stick to debuts that have blown me away or a debut that has characters I want to see again. Sometimes a favorite author will get a review from me as well, but they too will have had to blown me away.
This book was recommended by an author I read without fail. Nick Petrie mentioned this book and author in his newsletter. It sounded intriguing so I picked it up.
I could not put it down. I raced from chapter to chapter , situation to situation. It was so good, so highly recommended. I look forward to more from this author. If you like good characters, heroes, interesting bad guys, and a thrill ride, read this book.

An overall thrilling and interesting story, populated with an ensemble cast of memorable characters and situations. However, I was put off by Argento seeming to be good at everything. For every scenario he faces in the story we’re given a bit of back story about how he’s seen it before, before he proceeded to overcome it. It was repeated ad nauseam to the point of being mentally eye rolling.

[SPOILER]The only thing that somewhat redeemed that character trait was Argento eventually getting debilitated to the point of being on the brink of death and has to be saved by the young woman in his charge.[/SPOILER]

Still, an entertaining and recommended read, even if the main character is a Gary Stu.

DESCRIPTION : Kurt Argento, an ex-Detroit street cop who can’t let injustice go and who has the fighting skills to back up his idealism. If he sees a young girl being dragged into an alley, he's going to rescue her and cause some damage. When he does just that in a small corrupt Missouri town, he’s brutally beaten and thrown into a maximum-security prison. Julie Wakefield, a grad student who happens to be the governor's daughter, is about to take a tour of the prison. But when a malfunction in the security system releases a horde of prisoners, a fierce struggle for survival ensues. 
Argento must help a small band of staff and civilians, including Julie and her two state trooper handlers, make their way from the bottom floor to the roof to safety. All that stands in their way are six floors of the most dangerous convicts in Missouri.

The writing pulled me in right away and I was feeling for the main character Kurt immediately. Since the author is a police officer, I’m sure a lot of his experience and knowledge went into making this book feel so horrifyingly real. The tension of not knowing what was behind the next door or curtain at one point, remained high til the end. Action-packed from beginning to end. I’m hoping they make this into a movie. If anyone liked the Prison Break series, you should try this book.

Fantastic Jack Reacher like action. Need to make this into a movie and cast the star with someone like Jason Statham but with more emotional depth.

I'm not sure what I anticipated by the title of the book, but it certainly wasn't what it turned out to be. I sometimes drive past some pretty terrible prisons when I drive up to Phoenix from Tucson. I think I'm going to start taking a safer route. You will know why when you read the book.

For one of his first novels, the book was well written with great character development. I hope this becomes a series. Somewhat reminded me of a Nick Petrie book. It was somewhat grisly in parts but overall well done.

I am one who rarely thinks that books make good movies, but if any book SHOULD be made into an action movie, this is it! Incredibly intense while at the same time, very well-written characters. I found this hard to put down, and while at times it may have been a bit graphic and not for the very squeamish, I thoroughly enjoyed it and will read more of his work in the future!

Loved this book. This was one of my favorite books-ever. And I am an absolutely avid reader. I read everything from classical literature to popular fiction and read an average of 50 books a year. Adam, if you read these reviews, I sincerely hope you write more. Your characters had me in tears at times yet were inspiring and so well written. Great, great job.
