5.0 out of 5 stars Great for travel
Reviewed in the United States on September 7, 2024
I bought this for traveling when we fly so I have something to keep me busy. Keep in mind, I'm just a recreational player.

Easy to set up, tear down, and stow away. It fit easily in the overhead compartment on the plane.

It plays easily and hold it's tune while playing. It sounds pretty good through the included ear buds...again, keep in mind that I'm a recreational player and usually play acoustic so I don't have the best ear for electric. It sounds like any other electric guitar when playing unplugged. I played it through an amp when I first got it and it sounded like my other electric.

I was playing with the earbuds outside a hotel/lodge and some random dude stopped and listened for a minute ( no amp and just the string sound) and said it sounded great...lol

It is a little pricey for a travel guitar, but seems like it has quality parts and is solid when everything is on it or when you play without the frame pieces.

If you need a travel guitar and dint mind spending the money, I strongly recommend.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but not great

Solid value for a travel guitar with features hard to find elsewhere. However there were issues, some I was able to address but others are permanent.

Pros:
+ Full-size scale, full-size humbucker and single coil, in a compact travel package
+ Good carrying case, padding, organization
+ Lots of included additions: headphones, cable, picks, tools, tuner, straps. Great for a beginner, but wish there was an option to skip those and save a few $, as most intermediate players have a drawer full already.
+ Stainless steel frets, nicely crowned
+ Built-in amp, ability to boost the pickups, turning them into active
+ Lots of little clever features, detachable contour, tool holder in the battery lid
+ Comfortable progressive asymmetrical neck
+ String change is quick and each and bridge design is good.
+ Comfortable to hold and to play

Cons:
- There was a small fretboard defect on fret 12, I was able to repair it myself (see photos).
- The guitar setup was passable, but not great, took some tinkering and a string swap to adjust most of it.
- The action will permanently be high. This is my biggest issue, as it is not fixable. I lowered as much as the adjustments allowed and it is still measuring med-high. It will never be as well setup as the rest of my guitars. I should have decked another star but this, but I realize that I might be spoiled by the rest of my guitars and overly judgmental.
- Wish the neck was bolted, this would have allowed me more options to fix the action, shimming, etc.

5.0 out of 5 stars This thing is pretty sweet

OK, I just got this last night. It took about 10 minutes to unpack, set up, tune, and get to playing. It comes with everything you need: tuner, picks (which are actually pretty good, sorta similar to my Jazz IIIs), 2 sets of allen wrenches, strap, surprisingly good headphones, battery, guitar cable (which is semi-thick, not like the thin entry level ones you get sometimes), and even a cloth to wipe things down. The case is great and separates the guitar from everything else via two separate chambers in the very compact structure.

I played this thru the headphones and my iPad (via iRig 2 and Amplitude); I'm actually traveling right now so I don't have access to my regular setup. It sounds very nice thru the headphones; very crisp, no static or latency. Thru my iRig and Amplitude, I got to dial in some nice crunch and really go to town. Frets feel very nice and rounded, and the stock strings are fine (although I'll be replacing them with my trusty Ernie Ball Slinkys in a bit). It's very easy to tune and stays in tune nicely. Fretboard and neck feel nice, and the thing doesn't weigh much at all. The volume and tone being in the same stack is a pretty nice way to save space and not sacrifice the tone knob.

I've been playing for 20+ years and have some pretty expensive toys. I must say, used to think of Donner as poorly made stuff for beginners, but this has changed my mind. For me, it's the perfect travel guitar, and just might find its way into regular rotation with alternate tunings or something along those lines.

Well done guys.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm so glad that I waited for the Donner HUSH-X. Amazing craftmanship and design. Bonus Stuff

I have been wanting a travel guitar for a long time now. Every time I was about to pull the trigger, I would see a newer and better product being mentioned. I saw the Donner Hush-I a few months ago and I was really impressed by its design. While researching video reviews of it, I came across videos on the Donner HUSH-X. Perfect, I thought, except that it hadn't been released yet, and there was no information from Donner on when it might be released. This weekend, I was about to buy the HUSH-I which would have been a compromise for me because of the bridge. But, the clouds parted and the guitar Gods shone their faces upon me when I saw the Donner HUSH-X was available and would be here before Christmas. This guitar is so much more than I expected, and the price makes it an unbelievable value compared to the Traveller or the Alp (Asmuse). Although it's not mentioned in the listing, mine came with a clip on tuner, a 10ft long guitar cable (1/4") a pair of wired headphones, a 9V battery, spare allen screws for the bridge. A guitar strap and some picks. I'm in the bonus round now! One of the things that I really like about the Donner is that you do not need a tool or a wrench to tune the guitar (like the Asmuse). This guitar arrived with the action and intonation set pretty good. I may try to lower the action a little, once I play it more. But for now, it is very playable, and sounds great through my amplifier with clean or distorted tones, and even with new strings, it stays in tune. The finish on the frets is excellent and there are no sharp edges or fret buzz. I wasn't sure about putting it on my guitar stand, but it does fit. This guitar will be primarily used for when I'm on the road, and not for playing much at home. I am so glad that I waited for the HUSH-X. It is absolutely everything that I wanted with no compromises. I hope that you find this review and my pics helpful. I'll upload a video with some tones after Christmas.
