All my kids have gone through playing this game. They need to make a modern version. My kids love Arthur.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for developing counting skills

My 4 and 5 year old grand-daughters really enjoyed this game, especially the Store Game where you can buy articles to dress a character, count and place the correct number of coins into the cash register. If you don't have enough, you go to a differnet screen to make items out of ingredients like for a bake sale and earn your extra coins to go back to the Store and complete your sale.

Too bad though that we kept having trouble with this particular game CD only. It kept getting frozen and I would have to restart the computer. I ended up throwing it out, but plan on buying a replacement soon - hoping the new one will work better for us.

1.0 out of 5 stars Game is nice, but crashes on Windows 7 (32-bit)

Looks like nice game, but it's obsolete and does not work under Windows 7 (32-bit) even with various compatibility modes enabled. I need to try running it in a Windows XP virtual machine.

2.0 out of 5 stars Low Educational Value & System Compatibility Issues Mac and PC
Reviewed in the United States on February 25, 2009
If you are a Mac User - please be aware that this title is incompatible with all newer Apple Macintosh computers. Any mac with an Intel processor (from about 2006 onward) or with the newest operating system (10.5) will NOT be able to run this program. And even older macs will need the OS9 compatibility options installed. Yuck.

If you are a PC User. I tried to install this program on my Sony Vaio running XP. The game complained of a missing WAV driver and would not run. Finally, I got it working on another Windows PC, but with issues. The game tried to switch to a lower resolution and my PC handled that by adding a black border around the game area. I don't like the idea of my son squinting at a smaller image in the middle of the screen! Also - occasionally my mouse cursor would sometimes change to a black square making it difficult to tell where you were pointing. I'm sure this game will work fine for most PC users. I'm not sure what was different about my two computers that caused the incompatibility.

Finally - the educational value of this game is extremely limited. Basically it is a computerized book. As you flip from page to page, a voice reads the words to you and the text is highlighted. After the text is read, your child is given a chance to click randomly on the page. If you happen to click on certain objects, they perform some funny animation with sound. Some objects are click-able and others are not.

There are 5 mini games hidden throughout the game. For example, on page 2 if you happen to guess to click on the helicopter, a small remote control pops up on the screen and you can actually control it and drop water balloons on a target.

I only give it a second star because - despite all of this, my son really did enjoy it once I got it going.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cute, Fun

This is an old game indeed, but works out great as my (then 5 year old) has an old desktop. This not only reads (and helps him read) a cute story, but lets him play around in the "book" as well, great fun! There are plenty of games that teach math, reading, spelling and more at different difficulty levels (so it is perfect for the suggested age range). I got it not just for the educational value, but also to get my lil guy used to using a computer and he caught on QUICK thanks to this game.

My 5 year old grandson loves this game. He likes to make money so he can buy things at the store. He likes to go diving. A few other activities on this game. I like it because it keeps his attention after he finishes peeling potatoes and I need to finish making the rest of supper.
Hold my beer while I try this out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great interactive learning experience for pre- & beginning readers!

I'm a reading educator and highly recommend this product as a natural, enjoyable way to enter the realm of reading. Before you know it, your child will be picking out words, that is, learning vocabulary. Forget the phonics books! USE REAL READING EXPERIENCES LIKE THIS ONE.
