5.0 out of 5 stars Best Mac graphics product

This is an amazing tool. I originally got it to create simply website headers. I did not realize that for the price I would be getting a full image creator and editor. It is comparable in most areas to Photoshop at a fraction of the cost and designed specifically for us Mac users. If I had known the product was this full-featured, I would have bought it much sooner. For less than the cost to have someone else create a web image for you, you can own the software!

The learning curve is much lower than most image editing and creation software, and it is widely used, so there are free video tutorials everywhere for every possible feature you could think of.

I highly recommend this product. If you use it once, it will have paid for itself, but you will probably be like me and find yourself using it day in and day out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Image processing for those on a budget . . .

Back in the days before I retired and, simultaneously, made the switch from PC to Mac I used Photoshop at least weekly as I prepared materials for ads, sales brochures & presentations, trade show exhibits, etc. and got reasonably adept at using most of its myriad tools. In retirement I rarely had a need for photo manipulation beyond what was available in Aperture, until I got involved in a 50th high school reunion that's coming up this Fall. Tasked with producing some graphics for this I once again found need for more advanced capabilities but didn't want to make the investment in Photoshop for my Mac just for occasional use such as this. Did a little online research and Pixelmator appeared to be the best bang for the buck and I've not been disappointed. While it's not as full-featured as Photoshop it certainly possesses the tools most of us need for more casual image manipulation and is both easy to use and relatively powerful. For me it was an excellent choice and one that I'd make again after using it for a couple of months.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pixelmator vs Aperture
Reviewed in the United States on February 18, 2010
I love my Mac and while iPhoto is an awesome program there seem to always be some images that need a little more editing. So, I had a choice of 2 products that I liked. I purchased Pixelmator and while it does a lot of things and can get very involved I was not personally pleased with the software. Seems it is more of a creative tool than a photo editing tool - my opinion. So, I have since purchased Aperture 3 and do prefer it to Pixelmator. The flow of Aperture 3 with iPhoto seems a better match as well. So, download the free trial of Pixelmator before buying as well as the free trial of Aperture 3. Yes, I know Aperture 3 is more expensive but it is an Apple product and again - if you are OK with spending a little more I think you will be happier with Aperture 3 than Pixelmator. Also, the support with Pixelmator was less than good. No response to the 2nd email sent after attempting to do something suggested to me by their support.

1.0 out of 5 stars Overpriced and dysfunctional

Wow...Pixelmator is BAD.

Let's just take the example of one of the main reasons I bough this Photoshop-lite tool: the clone stamp.

The interface on the clone stamp is unwieldy and renders it virtually useless. From time to time, the clone stamp source area will just go invisible. It's been like that since Day One.

Need help? Go to the Pixelmator online "tutorial". They'll show you how to use the clone tool, which would be great it if it was working properly. Nothing to troubleshoot problems. Try Googling to find someone else who has experienced the same problem and you get no answers from others. Which means the problem is unsolvable.

Many Pixelmator owners have reported the same problem, as well as a host of others.

There is nothing Pixelmator does well, and nothing that other programs don't do better, for the same money.

Don't bother with this software. It's a waste of time and money, and I've deleted it from my hard drive. Learn from my experience and don't waste your money (and save yourself many hours of frustration).

If you see a good review of Pixelmator...well, those are the company's paid shills.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed in the ease of use.

I was looking for a photo editing program that went one step further than the built-in iPhoto editing on my new Mac. Something easier to use and cheaper than Photoshop. Pixelmator reviews had led me to believe it was what I was looking for, but I found the program difficult to figure out. And figure out is what you have to do, because as with most programs these days, the manual is online and cumbersome to search.

I can't really give much of an opinion on how Pixelmator works, because I am still trying to learn to use it, a month after I purchased it. But I do know one thing, it is not "Image Editing Made Easy."

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent substitute

Used in place of my prized old Photoshop program which no longer will work with my new Mac OS X system. Pixelmator works just fine for my extensive but non professional requirements, has most of the features I was accustomed to and was an easy switch. Pixelmator is an excellent substitute and at a fraction of the cost. Pixelmator is also an a inexpensive way to begin learning about photo enhancement, there are excellent tutorials available.

I purchased Pixelmator to replace photoshop elements 2 on my macbook as it was about time to get a newer external editor for iPhoto. The low price and rare need for an advanced image editor sold me on this application. The app installed easily and appears to have no issues with Snow Leopard or iPhoto 8. And Pixelmator has been easy to use so far. Recommended to any mac user who finds iPhoto is just not quite enough every now and then. Real enthusiasts who use their mac as a digital darkroom may well want an app with more features geared toward publishing. Then again?

I am very pleased at the number of options in the product. Great price and very easy to use. The only thing that it lacks for me is a red eye correction application. I have a Mac and just you that function in IPhoto. I highly recommend this software.
