Yes, this is an older program. It does; however, work on XP. Follow these steps:

    1. Install the program
    2. RIGHT CLICK on Spooky Icon
    3. Click on Properties
    4. Click on Compatibility Mode
    5. Click on 256 Compatibility in Windows 2000

...and it should load fine...it worked for me. Good luck. This is the absolute best typing program I ever used with my kids. It is fun and engaging and they were typing in a day and couldn't wait to get back to it. They should make it again.

1.0 out of 5 stars This product is good and that is why I purchased it

This product is good and that is why I purchased it. However, it's not compatible with windows 7 or 8. Which is a bummer! I used this typing program for my kids when they were younger and they absolutely loved it. My daughter who is 32 years old now who saw her younger sister on this program almost pushed her out the chair to type. Raving, I love this program mom!

2.0 out of 5 stars Kid's Typing Game
Reviewed in the United States on May 1, 2011
I had this game for my daughter back in the '90's. It is a very educational game and promotes teaching kids how to type. However, when I recently bought another copy for my grandchildren I could not get it to download properly on an XP or Windows 7 machine. I'm sure there may be a way to make this work but I could not find it. I would caution against ordering this unless you really know a great deal about formatting and computer programs OR you have an older (I mean Ancient, we're talking Windows 3.1 or 95) machine to put it on. It worked great on an old school Mac before Mac's were cool again, circa 1994.

Kids TypingWhen my daughter was around 10, this was her favorite program to learn to type. I recently bought this program for my granddaughter who is 8, she loves the program too! The only problem was with installing, we had to get our local computer guru to make some adaptions to our computer for the program to run on Windows Vista. At this point we haven't been able to get the program to run on Kids Typinga later version of Windows.

5.0 out of 5 stars How to run the game today
Reviewed in the United States on April 30, 2024
This is the game that I learned how to type with when I was a kid in the 90s! You get to help a ghost spook different humans in a house, and your success is based on how good you are at typing.

You can still run this game even today. The key is to use DOSBox. I've used DOSBox to run the Windows version of Kid's Typing.

    1. DOSBox is free and open source. Download a copy of it and install it.
    2. Locate and install a copy of Windows 3.1 inside the DOSBox instance. You will also want to locate and install the S3 graphics driver, and SoundBlaster audio driver for Windows 3.1. If you Google, you can find some guides to help you with this.
    3. Install Kid's Typing inside the Windows 3.1 version running inside DOSBox.
    4. Enjoy!

DOSBox emulates the CPU and all other hardware devices from back in the day. So, this procedure should work now and even many more years into the future on modern hardware!

I loved playing this game as a little kid and haven't been able to find it forever. I was so excited when I found it and got it in the mail. I can't stop playing it! Thank you!

I played this game as a child and learned how to type with it. I had so much fun and wish that my mom hadn't lost it in one of their moves. So glad I can still get it.
