About this item

The only thing worse than fake marrying a woman for a job is falling in love with her! An opposites-attract lesbian romance that puts the ache in fake relationship.

Driven, reserved businesswoman Mackenzie Watson has one goal—take over her family company and secure her little sister's future. The only wrinkle is her late grandmother's decree that her company's CEO must be married.

Adding marriage into Mack's well-ordered life is a recipe for disaster. Her oh-so-logical solution? She'll just hire a woman to be her wife for a year. Besides, maybe a little chaos is exactly what she needs . . .

Enter Taylor Sutton, the woman Mack accidentally stood up for a date six months ago. With a mountain of college debt, the barista could seriously use the money that comes with playing Mack's wife. The big hitch—so to speak—is that her new wife is pretentious and arrogant and Taylor can't stand even being in the same room with her.

God, Taylor pities anyone who'd fall in love with annoying, gorgeous Mack Watson and her kissable lips.

Wait, what?

Contains mature themes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fake dating at its best!

“The Business of Love” by Charley Clarke is a sweet fake dating romance that I enjoyed a lot.
To become the next CEO of her family’s company, Mackenzie (Mack) Watson needs to get married. Unfortunately for her, she’s stopped dating after her ex cheated and used her for money.
Taylor Sutton needs money. She’s barely making it as a barista while she pays off school loans and figures out her next step.
The two are set up on a blind date by mutual friends but Mack accidentally stands her up while working. They keep running into one another because of their friends and though they don’t get along, they decide to date and get married to help each other out.
I actually read this right before I read The Fiancée Farce and I have to say I enjoyed this one a lot more. While they have very similar storylines, they couldn’t be more different. This book was so sweet and with very little angst. While their relationship starts off rocky, both Mack and Taylor are caring and lovable characters and really try hard to be there for the other.
I loved how their relationship slowly developed over time. I find slow burns harder and harder to find lately and this one fit the bill perfectly. Clarke really gives them time to get to know one another and to let their feelings grow and change.
Highly recommended!

I truly enjoyed this book by Charley Clarke. It was a great faux relationship. It kept me interested from start to finish, and was unhappy anytime I had to put it down. The MC's had excellent chemistry. Both characters showed growth. I did not want to see it end. I look forward to more books by this author in the future.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting & Sweet

The fake relationship trope isn't always done well, but this one was. I truly enjoyed reading it. Taylor, plus size and beautiful, at first was a little stuck on her own assumptions. It was a little frustrating, but once she opened her eyes and her mind, she was very sweet/kind. Mack, autistic and strong, the way I read it ,she is a pseudo soft butch or androgynous in a lot of ways. Mack loved suits and approached things head on overall even when situations weren't easy for her. They were a brilliant match. Side characters were fun and added depth. I give this a 4 out of 5. Worth the read.

Mackenzie Watson’s primary goal is to secure her CEO position in her family’s business. Just one thing stands in her way; she’s not married. A stipulation in her grandmother’s will requires that the CEO rise through the ranks of the company, have a college degree, and be a family person, i.e., be married. That’s where Taylor Sutton comes in. She’s stuck in low paying jobs and drowning in student debt. A great family oriented story that rings joy in hearts.

An absolutely charming book with likeable characters, a slight twist on a favorite trope, and low angst. A slow burn that didn't have me yelling at the mains to hurry it up. A lovely three hours.

This was such a cute, loving read. I haven’t read a book by this author but was very pleasantly surprised. The characters were very in-depth, they were complex with there own flaws and insecurities. I loved how the author didn’t let it hold the characters back though. I like how once they decided what they wanted they went for it that was refreshing. Cute read and worth your money!

This book was so cute and entertaining. I loved the slow build up. The development of the romantic relationship between the main characters was slow burn for sure. This book will leave you feeling happy and satisfied. I recommend if you like slow burns, fake dating, or enemies to friends to lovers. This will touch all those bases. ????????????️‍????
