    The JBL Charge 5 is everything I hoped.

    It's compact has great sound and the battery life does not disappoint. I've had the thing playing off the TV since noon yesterday and it's just after 1:00 p.m. now. So more than 24 hours.

    JBL says the battery life depends on the volume level and admittedly I've had mine at low. Still... This thing has plenty of battery life left.

    I think the base level on a Bose is probably a little better but... I am not disappointed with the base level on this small speaker. I was so happy with it I ordered a second to pair two together. 10 plus plus stars on this one hopefully I'm just as happy with the second one that comes in today!

    After reading reviews (on Amazon and other sites) on middle-weight BT speakers, I settled on the JBL Charge 5. Lots of battery life. LOTS of loud, clear, deep musical sound. Easy to pair to my iPhone. This speaker comes with and charges via USB-C cable, one of my pre-requisites (I'm trying to narrow down the gaggle of cable mess in my drawers and bags!). I'm super happy with the sound quality and quantity. I take it to our outdoor pickleball courts and everyone on all four courts can hear the music clearly. The speaker is big enough to have great sound. It's small enough to toss into my racket backpack along with all my other stuff.

    I gave this speaker a 4-star rating because it's missing some fairly common features that other speakers in the same price category come with, like microphone for taking phone calls on speakerphone and built-in "smart" assistant.

    I saved some money by going with a "Renewed" device. The description states: "This product is in "Excellent condition". The screen and body show no signs of cosmetic damage visible from 12 inches away." Well...not exactly. That certainly wasn't the case with the first unit they shipped me. I got a speaker that appears (quite obviously from 12 inches and beyond) to have "survived" its first life in the back of a oil rig work truck that was driven down long, dusty, back-country, gravel roads. It was scuffed up and dirty. I immediately submitted for a replacement unit. The 2nd unit was in much better shape with only a few minor scuffs on one end. Everything works just like new, so no complaints over performance.

    If having a microphone for speaker-calls or built-in digital assistant (Alexa, Siri, Hey Google, etc) isn't a must-have, then this speaker is a 5-star unit in every way.

    For a small speaker it packs a punch. Connects easily with Bluetooth. Battery lasts a good number of hours and recharges quickly with a USB cable.

    Best portable speaker purchase I’ve made, hands down! I’ve owned both “highly recommended” off brand, and some very similar name brand speakers over these past few years. For the price and top tier quality, you can’t beat this. Very good construction, easy to use and navigate, LOOOONG distance connectivity, and fantastic music quality; I’d recommend this product first to anyone looking for a portable speaker that everyone can enjoy.
