As an artist with kids who also love art, I'm constantly looking for good mess containers. Whether painting, dying easter eggs, working with resin, clay or anything else, the mess is always a problem.

When I saw the tiny box this mat came in, I was really doubting its usefulness. Then I opened it up and spread it out. The silicone layer is thin and flexible, meaning that it can easily be folded up and put away.

The cup has all the really useful features I love - a hard plastic ribbed bottom for cleaning brushes, top curves to keep brushes laid across from rolling away and a side holder for brushes you want to stand up. The cup is collapsable for storage, but holds at least 8oz of water and is removable from the mat for water changes. The mat has a cupholder that secures the bottom of the cup against tipping but is still easy to remove.

The top edge has plenty of paint spots to set up for mixing with 12 squares, 2 half circles and 2 larger areas also beside them. There's an area to lay brushes and a stand with small holes - not sure what the holes are for. Putting brush ends into them you can stand brushes, but the weight of the brushes causes the mat to pull up and let them fall over. The holes are too small for most pencils.

The silicone mat itself is flat and thin. Silicone is a great material to work on since it doesn't stain very much and washes easily. I'm looking forward to stealing the mat to dry my resin pieces over since the resin should peel off easily.

If your children love to do arts and crafts, this is a must buy. I have one that my daughter was gifted and I had to find one for my son because they are so incredibly helpful at keeping art materials contained and also protecting any surface they do their work on. I absolutely love that the cup actually comes off of the mat unlike the one I had before. When doing water color painting or anything that requires water, I like that it can be filled without having to move the mat and it has it's designated spot that is far enough from the painting surface so it doesn't accidently get knocked down, but close enough in reach to wash the brush. The cup is also collapsible and that is great for 2 reasons: 1. it is compact so it doesn't take up more space than necessary and 2. it can be short if you only need a little bit of water (like when a younger child is painting) or lifted if you are going to let brushes soak. Honestly every single feature is super useful for different activities. I even will use it myself when working on projects for Christmas or whenever any glue or glitter is involved.
A wonderful gift for sure for any artist! This and a couple new brushes or paint would be a great gift.

Oh my gosh, what a game changer! I'm a mom of two young toddlers and I can't believe I hadn't ordered this sooner. Its made arts and crafts - especially painting - so much easier and cleaner. We've used it a handful of times so far and it's worked like a charm. The water cup works surprisingly well and stays upright without issue, even with my toddler who is still practicing his fine motor skills and sometimes pushes down on the walls of it when he's cleaning his paintbrush. I also love the little reservoirs where you can add paint to. Before, I would either add paint to separate cups (which made cleanup much more of a hassle) or together on a paper plate (that always seemed to end up flipped over or on the floor). This mat keeps everything where it needs to be and makes it easy for my kids to access what they need. The only thing I wish was different is the thickness of the mat itself. It is much thinner than I expected, and while it still works, I feel like a thicker silicone would be easier to clean and more durable. Because the mat is so thin, it's super flimsy which makes cleaning it more difficult than it should be, and I don't really see it standing up against the test of time. It hasn't ripped yet, but I can see that happening pretty easily if you're not gentle with it.

All in all, it's been a great addition to our arts and crafts routine and helps to confine the mess - especially when it comes to painting. It's versatile enough that you can use it for more, and is a really solid option, especially for the price. While I do wish it were a bit thicker, it hasn't impeded our ability to do arts and crafts with it - I just hope it lasts and doesn't rip with frequent use.

I have a craft room and a set of acrylic paints that I use frequently. I often hesitate to get my paints out because I know I'm going to be left with a mess and I have to do a lot of prep to ensure my craft tables don't get paint all over them. I like this painting mat because it comes with everything you need to prep for painting. The collapsible cup is ready to be filled with water, the paint dividers are ready to be filled with paint, and it even has brush rests for your paint brushes. The mat is large enough for most types of painting projects. When you're done, you can just take the whole mat into the sink to wash and the silicone material makes clean up very easy. This is a great addition to my craft room.

I love this mat, it makes for a quick clean up when we are done painting. It is a great size mat for children allowing them to make a mess on the mat but it doesn’t just run off. I will definitely recommend this mat to friends with kids.

I know this mat is designed for watercolors, but, honestly, I stink at watercolors. *I* bought this mat for working with my new resin kit! FUN!

This mat is great for a smaller work area, and light enough that it's easy to pick up and wash off. True, it's not as thick as my entire-worktop silicone mats, but, if it were, it would be harder to wash. This is a nice compromise of sturdiness and portability.

In fact, this is the perfect size and weight of silicone mat if you know you're going to be crafting on a trip. It folds up to a really compact size and isn't too heavy.

On the resin note, I'm eager to use the compartments as resin molds!

A great addition to a crafting bench!
