Very Good for Sensitive Skin

I have very sensitive skin and my husband has excema. We needed a good reef safe sunscreen for a Mexico trip. I am so white that I'm pretty much the person you look at and wonder if they ever have seen the sun. I live under giant sunglasses and an even bigger straw hat.

This sunscreen kept us burn and sensitive skin reaction free. I love that the bottle turns purple in harmful levels of rays. It reminded me to slather it on.

It is very white toned and doesn't absorb like the chemical sunscreens do, so if you are new to it give it a couple of applications as a learning curve. Once you have it down there is nothing better.

I won't use any other sunscreen

I first discovered Blue Lizard while researching good sunscreens and took a chance by ordering a bottle and a package of lip balm protectant. I'm very happy with this product and won't use anything else. It's a quality product; just a bit more expensive than other brands but I need the 50spf protection since I have extremely sensitive skin. Blue Lizard hits all the right notes: it isn't greasy; it's very easy to apply; it lasts for hours; it has a smooth, silky feel on my skin; it doesn't stain clothes; it has no chemical scent ingredients; it's well-priced for the protection and features.

I live in Florida. That should be enough of an explanation of why I like this stuff. I chose this sunscreen because I am outside all the time and out on the water often. It’s lasts longer while in the water and works really well overall. You should always reapply sunscreen every 1 to 1-1/2 hours anyways. The bottle changes colors when exposed to UV Rays so you know you need to put some on. One of the other things I like about this is that this stuff is Reef Safe. A lot of sunscreens have chemicals that contribute to damaging reefs and corals. I’ve been using this stuff for 10 years or more. When I put this stuff on, later on I can tell where I missed a spot, so it is that good. Good luck!

I'm sure this is a good sunscreen, but it has tons of chemicals in it

This sunscreen seems like it works well and has a lot of benefits based on what people have been saying. But I have to say, the marketing is kind of deceptive. This is marketed as a mineral sunscreen with no chemicals in the active ingredients, and free of some common toxins, which is true, but the inactive ingredients consist of dozens of chemicals with archaic names which causes one to wonder what effects they might have. It is likely that when these chemicals wash into the ocean, they do cause harm to life there because the oxy chemicals aren't the only ones that cause harm. Generally, adding man made chemicals to the environment is a bad idea. So I felt it was important to say this because I was under the impression that this is a "natural" sunscreen, but clearly it is not given that it consists mainly of man made chemicals.

Worked First Time Out

I got this sunscreen to take to Florida. It was my first time out in hot sun since last summer. I have rosacea and very sensitive skin, especially my face. Many sunscreens I have tried really irritate my face and make the rosacea worse. This one did not. It was easy to apply, not thick and sticky like some. Once rubbed in, I had very minimal white look on my skin and the most important part is I did not get any sunburn. This will be my summer go to for skin protection for sure.

I needed something for my head, ( thinning hair)that wouldn’t run into my eyes. This came recommended by surfers. It worked really well, and lasted longer that typical sunscreen. It take a while to rub in, and it helps to be completely dry while doing it. Used it on my head, face, and hands, and got mildly tanned, but never close to burnt. Strongly recommend

I hate writing reviews, but I'd like to save other shoppers the absurd amount of time that I dumped into evaluating/reading reviews for sunscreens. Typically, the only sunscreen I use is Neutrogena Helioplex, broad spectrum ultra sheer dry; but for upcoming trip I needed "Reef safe" (read: free of oxybenzone and octinoxate) sunscreen ... and so began the saga to find a suitable replacement sunscreen.

I apparently require too much from my sunscreen because it was tedious to find one that fulfilled the following:
1) >50 SPF (to maximize the time it'll last in the sun and reduce the amount of UVB)
2) No scent
3) OK for sensitive skin
4) No white mask / ghost-like appearance when wearing
5) Won't stain clothes
6) Waterproof
7) Not greasy
8) Absorbs easily without having to use extra time (and muscle) rubbing it in

Finally went with BLUE LIZARD based on extensive evaluation of sunscreens' reviews.

Well ... not only was this sunscreen OK, it was perfect. It just nailed every one of my 8 requirements and kept everyones' skin from being burned in the slightest after 10 days of fun-in-the-sun (and water) at the equator. Seriously, coming back from those 10 days, it was questionable whether a trip to the equator even took place.

A few notes:
- Sunscreen was worn with different types of clothing (UV protecting T-shirts, bathing suits, cotton) without staining; including a white cotton shirt which was in direct contact at neck and sleeves - no stains.
- White mask was different for different users. The difference was how much sunscreen was used. One user used a nickel-sized amount for face - had no issue with burning and no white masks. Other user used a quarter-size - had no issue with burning but did have a white mask. Conclusion: if you find you DO have a mask, consider reducing the amount you are using.

In the end, not only was this a great "reef-safe" sunscreen, it will be replacing Neutrogena because it works the same and the price is better.

If you too are spending too much time looking for sunscreen - save yourself. End the search and buy this!

No white residue

I usually use EltaMD sunscreen recommended by my dr but wanted to give this one a try. I LOVE it! A little goes a long way. I use it for my arms, legs and chest. I have not tried this on my face. I prefer to use a tinted facial sunscreen. You do have to rub it in a bit more if you put too much on. I also like the fact that your bottle will turn pink from the UV sun rays. It seems I only need to apply once while working in the garden for a few hours. I will definitely continue to buy this sunscreen.
