5.0 out of 5 stars This thing makes ice really fast!

This machine is wonderful. The unit is a "returned" item and did not include an instruction manual, but it's extremely user-friendly.

Pour the water to the max fill line, turn the machine on, and it starts immediately.

The ice that can be seen in the photo is what is made from the maximum water added -- and it takes an hour or less.

The ice is in a basket above the water reservoir, so the unit is about half-full of ice when it looks like this.

Ice "cubes" (more like pellets) are of a good consistency and firmness. I used filtered water (from a Brita pitcher) and the ice tastes the way it should.

I'd buy this item again -- and in fact, I might. I bought this one for the place where I volunteer, but maybe I need one at home too!

5.0 out of 5 stars A nice icemaker
Reviewed in the United States on July 30, 2024
It is a great icemaker. My wife is an ice water drinker and this keeps her happy. Fairly quiet, it makes cubes at a reasonable rate. If not used, they melt and cool the water in the reservoir. If the cube holder is tilted when inserted or it becomes full when cubes are not used, the full sensor (a light source and sensor across the top of the storage area) will stop ice making. Reinsert the cube holder correctly to start ice production. There are several different physical size descriptions on the internet, but really only one model and one size. The only difference in some are where the side an rear air vent holes are located. They must not be blocked for proper cooling opertion.

Very dependable. Quickly makes ice. A filled basket will fill a large mug. Easy to refill with water. Exactly what I was hoping for.

4.0 out of 5 stars Few things to know before buying, on the 3-star side of 4 stars...

Things to be aware of before buying:
1. Ice has a hole in the center, so takes up more space than a solid cube. We use to supplement our refrigerator ice maker, so it fills the bin but you don't get as much ice as the space consumed.
2. Ice is barely frozen, so it drips in the ice machine & clumps when added to the freezer. I have to break it up after moving to our freezer ice bin.
3. To maximize cube size, you should pre-cool the water fed to the machine. Otherwise it takes longer and the cubes produced are smaller.

The pros, this has worked consistently and is relatively quiet (there is a constant noise from the fan, but it isn't doesn't really bother me). It is heavy, so based on that it seems to have quality components on the inside. If they produced solid cubes and the compartment was maybe 5 degrees cooler so the ice didn't drip/melt, it would be a solid 5 star machine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it

What's not to love about my counter ice machine?? It's so easy to use. It makes enough ice for 2 people per week. We were buying ice and this product helped eliminate that. I love the red color. The ice cubes fit easily in my to go cup. The only issue I have is it takes a while to make the ice. One tank makes 2 gallon bags of ice and it takes 2 hours to make. I would buy this product again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heavenly!
Reviewed in the United States on April 26, 2024
Living FT in an RV, I have limited freezer space. Although I had both 26lb and 40lb countertop ice makers in my home for parties, this Frigidaire models is far superior to them. I let it run 24/7, fill my yeti in the morning (ice lasts all day) and come home to a full bin.

Yes, the bottom ice eventually melts and water is used to make more. BUT...the machine stays cold enough for 2 glasses of ice that stays hard in the bin, especially as it constantly makes more. I am in ice heaven!

Each batch makes the tiniest motor noise that lasts only seconds. Fan running creates minimal noise that isn't aggravating...and I'm very sensitive to noises.

Recommend using only distilled or Spring water for best tasting ice and avoiding scale buildup. Just run vinegar and water mix through it periodically. Be sure to dispose of that ice by using it for cleaning other things. Also be sure to run a few batches of clean water to get rid of vinegar residue.

1.0 out of 5 stars Mine sounds possessed! Growls and grunts. NOT NORMAL

UPDATE as of July 2020 -

We ended up having to move last year, so only used this ice maker for about two months before packing it back up in its original packaging for a local move. It didn't get UNpacked until three months ago. We plugged it back in, ran a few rounds of lemon water through it to clean out the tubes, and got it going. Things seemed fine. It wasn't even as noisy as it was before. We only use bottled water in it, as our area has pretty hard water. But then last week, it suddenly decided it wasn't going to make ice any more. It was giving us the "add water" error message, even though it was full. We tried turning it off and back on several times. We also completely unplugged it, hoping that might reset whatever had gone wrong.
Nope.
Dead ice maker.

So, we got LESS THAN SIX MONTHS' use from this ice maker. I don't know if it was just a lemon (you can read my original review...it never sounded right, and I never got a response from Frigidaire), or if this company makes extra-cheap machines. I am beyond disappointed in this. I need an ice maker and now can't afford to replace this one, with so little use on it.
Not happy.

ORIGINAL REVIEW -
We've had two other ice machines over the last decade. We keep this upstairs. I am partially disabled and don't have the mobility to run to the kitchen fridge. These machines help me have cold drinks and fill ice bags.

I love the color on this one. We've not had the Frigidare brand before, but most of these portable ice makers are the same and just have a different label slapped on them. It is pictured in the photo (decal was ours, they do not come thay way).

This is making ice ok for now, but I am SERIOUSLY concerned about how long it will last! We have NEVER had one that sounded like it was on its last leg, gasping and grunting to get the water up into the freezing compartment! It grunts and grinds so loudly, it makes the overflow tray on our keurig coffee maker (maybe 1-1/2 to 2 feet from the ice maker) shake! It is like a mini earthquake when it pumps water up! I KNOW this is not normal. At first, we thought the coffee pot was dying and grunting, as we listened from the other room. Nope...it was this ice maker.

I would like to see either the seller or manufacturer step up and replace this machine for us. We bought it new, not a refurb. Very disappointed in this unit so far. But I can no longer afford to just get a different one. ????
