GREAT PRODUCT but buyer beware on the install

I love the product, very well made , performs and looks fantastic. I am a retired General Contractor and have installed many range hoods. THEY ARE ALWAYS TOUGH TO INSTALL. The ducting, framing and wiring can be very complicated, so I HIGHLY suggest you get some professional help. The 2 main complaints I have with COSMOS, is that the video is very misleading and gives the appearance of an easy install. Second, is they give you no indication or advice on cutting down the 2 stainless shrouds. If you have an average 8 ft ceiling and want the unit high enough that you don't bang your head, they need to be cut. Again, this needs to be done by a professional. GREAT PRODUCT but please consider getting some experienced help.

Simple install

I got the all-metal one, my brother has the glass one and hates it cuz he walks into all the time. Also the glass one is ugly. ????

Anyhow. It's a relatively simple install, I installed a couple 2x4s between joists in the attic to hang it from, it has drywall anchors and screws but that would be ridiculously janky IMHO.

Also, if you have an 8 foot ceiling you'll have to trim the chimney (which I did with a cutoff wheel) or it'll be pretty low. Unmodified, it would've been 24" above the stovetop which looked weird and would be annoying to cook under (I mounted mine at 30").

But it'd be perfect for 10' ceilings, and otherwise it goes together easily, is definitely good quality, and it looks great! Very happy with it. I am currently using it un-ducted with just the charcoal filters and it is very effective getting rid of smoke. ????

Nice looking unit, moderate level installation

We needed to install a hood for the addition of a gas range. Ordered this unit due to CFM rating and shipping time. We were under a tight deadline to get it and get it installed. It came quickly and without any damage to the shipping box.

My installation was a bit more involved as i had to reconnect to an existing duct that was covered over during a renovation the previous owner did years ago. Thankfully there was electric power already in the same spot, just needed to add an outlet.

The instructions aren't great, but that's where YouTube is helpful. There are a handful of videos on installing island hoods. Not this exact model, but they are very similar.

My one gripe is that if you plan to hang the hood at a higher level you may need to cut the chimney duct. If you want to use it at it's highest level the stainless covers don't work without some rework. I have 8ft ceilings in my kitchen and if I was to install this as the directions lead, my hood would be about 15-20 inches off the top of the stove and directly in my face. I got it to work out with some improvising, but will need to redo the chimney to make it look better.

I have not tested it with actual cooking to see how well it evacuates smoke/steam, but a piece of paper sucks up to it on all settings. The fan is a bit loud, but would only use the high setting when cooking generates a lot of smoke.

I don't find the LED lights to be too bright/dim. In our situation they work well, adding good light to the cooking surface.

This installation isn't for the beginner home improvement type, you need to have a good knowledge of various types of skills, but overall it seems to be a good unit and is pretty sharp looking.

Good quality and looks great.

Final product looks great, works perfectly! But my contractor complained that it was supposed to be for "new construction only." more on that in a bit....

I have 10' ceilings and the extensions allowed us to bring the hood down to 36" above my cooktop, which is the max allowable height to meet code where I live. I think that's a pretty good height range. If you want 24" above your stove, you'll need to have 9' ceilings or lower.

The fit and finish is good. The touchscreen is responsive and works well enough. I'm actually surprised that the price is so low considering how much of the cost must be in the stainless steel and other materials alone. So I'm not picky about the screen, just happy that it responds well. One thing (nit pick) that I don't like is you have to sort of "wake it up" by holding the power button for two seconds before you can turn on the light or fan. But if the lights or fan are already on, it responds instantly to any buttons (no wake up needed).

So the only possible negative is that my contractor told me this is for "new construction only" because he had to fish wood supports up into the ceiling to mount this. But from what I've read (and YouTube videos I've watched), that's pretty normal even for non-new construction. Overall I'd buy it again, even for existing construction.
