I really liked this in the end! I've only ever crocheted one thing, a wooble, so I'm very new to this & this square is my second crochet piece ever. I found a video on YouTube from this company to walk me through the granny square. It was very very helpful and I couldn't have done it without. I used a 4.0 hook and found it worked best to ease the tension a bit. I did have to undo/redo multiple times but after I figured out the tension amounts, I completed the square in one evening. The yarn is very soft, you get threw whole spools of it (an almost overwhelming amount of yarn for a beginner), and the colors look great. Like a few reviews have mentioned, some of the white yarn has some blue died into it but there isn't much and personally this does not bother me. I would recommend this!

At first it takes a bit to learn the tension and the right hook size. From start I had to use a larger hook until I learn the correct tension. Now I use the 5.5mm just like the directions said. Also, my own personal preference I use a 5.0 or a 4.5 on the last row to give it a tighter cleaned look. This also gives me more than a 4 inch tail to weave in at the end. If you don't mind trialing and erroring then this is right for you. I seriously have made 32 granny squares so far. I'm attempting to make my first blanket

I, like others have had to play around with hook sizes but eventually after a few attempts, I was able to make the square. Advice, omit chain in between with recommended hook size or just save your money and don't buy it. It can be frustrating for beginners.

I bought this to try because I enjoy trying new things in needlework. Red Heart has always been my favorite yarn for everyday things, but this time they missed the mark. Not crazy about the color selections, but chose one that is close to out local NFL team. Had to use a magnifying glass to read the instructions inside the label, and it took several hours to complete two rounds. Then I started finding knots in the yarn which prevented the colors from ending at the correct spot.
Great idea, wish Red Heart had offered this in fingering weight or sport weight.
Donating this yarn to Goodwill and let someone else play with it.

I have religiously avoided anything to do with granny squares for 40 years all because I despise weaving in ends. Years ago, that was no big deal, granny squares became "old hat" and crocheting single motifs was more the thing. But lately, I felt like I was missing out on some really super modern, dynamic and fun crochet patterns available by a recent resurgence. Whipping out a whole skein of squares takes a matter of hours once you figure out the fiddly stuff and get the pattern right for your own style (lots of online videos with suggestions and even new motifs for this)...it does take a little tweaking but after one or two squares, it is a dream to work with. Working up this yarn is a joy and fun!

Overall, this is not worth the work. But I say go for it IF you don’t mind the darker dye bleeding onto a lighter color. This is obviously a mistake when dyeing the yarn. I’ll probably finish the granny square afghan but I cannot recommend this product.????
