My boys don't even feel like ey are learning (working) it feels more like a video game.
I bought a G4book and they play this learning game in the car, or camping.
It takes the struggle out of summer schooling.

I bought this for my Great Nephew who will be entering the 5th Grade in September. This program will give him a solid basis for mastery of the skills he will need to succeed. I am a retired Elementary/Early Childhood Educator.

Great to be able to buy at Amazon. We always bought these C.D.'s for our children and now for our grandchildren. They are very hard to find but keeps our grandson busy for hours and he is always learning.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible graphics, poor instructions

I bought this for my 5th grade daughter because I thought it would be a cool way to recap things and prepare her for the next year.

Problems with this game:
Poor instruction: the box doesn't even come with instructions, a booklet or pamplet to help you learn how to play the game. After you install it there is still no direction on what to do, you just have to click and hope you get somewhere. You can not select activities as you have to follow the order they give. It's mostly a lot of reading and answering boring questions.

Poo graphics: the worst graphics, you can hardly call this a video game as it looks more like something from the 80's Atari. Not something kids would be into.

Overall, I'm very disappointed and I would not encourage you to purchase this game, no matter how inexpensive.

3.0 out of 5 stars You'll need Google

My daughter loves the 3rd grade and 4th grade disks, and begged for this one.

She has spent a lot of time playing with this game, so I'm glad that we bought it, but of the Jump Start nth grade series, it is by far the weakest. The biggest issue is the art history sections and crossword puzzles, full of painters that I've never heard of and trivia that seems largely irrelevant, over the head of most adults, let alone kids. There's no instructional material before the puzzles that introduces the kids to these painters, either; they're just expected to know it. I can tell that a lot of parents felt the same way, because whenever I googled to find an answer, I found that someone had already posed that exact, obscure question and gotten it answered online.

So maybe that's the point of this game. To teach your 5th grader-to-be about the power of online search. I suppose at that, it would be a success... but only if your child has the ability to access Google while playing, and/or if you the parent are willing to help with those puzzles.

We also had some trouble figuring out how to do the complex math problems, multiplying multiple digit by multiple digit numbers. Only after much trial and error did we finally realize you were intended to do the whole problem on the computer, showing each step and then add them together, rather than just enter the final answer, as you did with every previous level of difficulty. An example problem or more specific help would have saved us about 40 minutes of frustration.
