I was slightly skeptical when I ordered this hood, due to it being a Chinese product with electronic push-button controls for both the lighting and ventilation circuits. I nearly opted for the more well-known Broan hood, which is simpler in design than this, (with good old reliable mechanical switches) and has a long-historied reputation in the US market. These were the two most attractive options for the narrow factor I needed for the camper I'm working on.
But I really like the features that come with this one! More speeeds, more light dimming levels, and even a 3 minute shutoff feature for the blower, all of which that base Broan didn't offer.
And for those who are worried about "fixability" if these electronic controls bork out on them, the fan appears to use separate winding circuits for each speed, with lights that can work without a dimmer, so the hood could be salvaged via mechanical switches with a little rewiring know-how, should its control module ever fail.
I'm very pleased with quietness of the low speeds, and the amount of air this thing moves on upper settings.
My one caveat with this unit is the light dimming control: It's a single button that you have to hold down as it quickly cycles downwards through what seems to be ten levels of intensity before landing at OFF.
Getting to that bottom (dimmest) setting without going all the way to OFF is a little tricky and disappointing.
I wish they'd have made it optional that each button press could advance it to the next setting, making the selection more precise and predictably knowing you've got it on its lowest setting.
But that aside, it's a nice hood, and I've only bench-tested it thus far, going to be installing it into a class A we're renovating.
And since there seems to be a little confusion on a very important aspect of this hood, I have to tell you from my own eyes and experience;
Yes: It has the option to vent out through its top through the cabinet above and into the ceiling/attic.
Yes: It has the option to vent straight out from its rear through the back wall.
No: I does not have the option to ventilate directly back into they room by its own internal design.... this is not a recirculatory unit. Those units have more stages of filtration anyway, including hepa and charcoal stages... This hood is only designed to remove odors, smoke and/or steam from the inside of the house to the outside of it, and it only has a single stage pair of stainless steel filters that can be easily removed for wash and reuse.
Again, this is a vented hood unit, not a recirculating one.
BTW: If you're building a new kitchen, and you have the ability to run a vent duct to the outside, it is highly advisable to avoid recirculatory hoods altogether; they're vastly inferior to vented hoods, and are a concession rather than an ideal.
