About this item

Memorize the fretboard before you play another note! Here’s why…..

A fully memorized fretboard is one of the most underrated skills in the guitar world. It’s not expected from a beginner, nor is it taught in the normal course of guitar learning.

But the smartest and best guitarists in the world know why fretboard knowledge can be the secret to being good at guitar.

Why memorize the fretboard?

Apart from sounding extremely cool when you say “Oh, you played a C instead of a C#”, it amplifies every area of your guitar playing:

Area #1: Guitar scales won’t be just patterns on the neck:

Guitar scales are simply a couple notes repeated all over the fretboard. If you understand this simple concept and have the fretboard memorized, you won’t need to memorize those endless patterns all over the fretboard. Simply get set and solo!

Area #2: You’ll unlock 1000+ guitar chords:

Chords are combinations of specific notes too. You can hold these notes anywhere on the fretboard to get chords in different contexts. And if you know the chord formulas (which we teach in our other books) you just unlocked the gates to the world of harmony – without having to memorize them all!

But it starts with – you guessed it – fretboard knowledge.

Area #3: Song writing becomes child’s play:

Break free from common chord shapes and sounds to venture into the wild west of music writing. Add your own chords to popular songs, change the key or simply be more creative.

Granted this is an advanced skill, but the shortest path to get there – fretboard memorization!

Area #4: And the biggest benefit of them all – improvisation!

Improvising is natural to a person who knows the fretboard! New note combinations, unorthodox melodies, playing fluently with a backing track or even writing new melodies. Nothing works if you can’t pick out the notes on the fretboard in an instant.

So, fretboard knowledge allows you to solo better, improvise better, play better harmonies and write songs. That’s a major chunk of guitar right there!

Why more people don’t memorize the fretboard.

It’s hard! It seems impossible! It’ll come with time!

And we agree with all of that. Memorizing 24 frets across 6 strings is not the easiest thing in the world. And most guitarists only ever master it after 1000s of hours on the guitar.

But we want to give you a cheat code!

Inside this book, we’ve simplified this process that takes a “lifetime” into 5 easy steps. Using these, absolute beginners have memorized the fretboard in less than 24 hours. Some even in as little as 5 hours!

Wondering how we do it? Simple!

We combined pattern recognition with memory techniques and games to create a system that will show you patterns hidden in plain sight and give you short memory phrases like “Eddie Ate Dynamite, Good Bye Eddie”. This will take the layout of the fretboard right to the brain – WITHOUT any sort of blunt memorization.

With over 700 5–star reviews, this book has helped over 39,000 guitarists shorten their learning time and gain the skill of the guitar gods – in under 24 hours!

And it costs less than a pack of strings!

So, scroll up and click ‘buy now’ to gain the unfair advantage of the pros in under 24 hours!

BREAK THE CYCLE OF LEARNING ONE SONG AFTER THE OTHER

Guitarists with no fretboard awareness are limited in what they can do on the guitar. They might know a few scales but don't understand how they work. They may know chords but would never understand chord chemistry. They may know to solo but they can never understand what note to play on top of what chord.

For most guitarists - it's a cycle of going from one song to the other without truly understanding how music works! Fretboard awareness can help you break free from that cycle. From mindlessly playing songs you find on the internet to understanding what makes great music.

Guitar Fretboard - Golden ticket

HERE'S YOUR GOLDEN TICKET TO UNLOCKING SCALES, CHORDS, SOLOING AND SONGWRITING

Start looking at scales as a series of notes that sound great together - not as random patterns on the neck. Start looking at chords as notes derived from a scale - not as shapes. This will enable you to understand music, twist, and turn it as you please.

And it all starts with fretboard awareness. A fully memorized fretboard is your golden ticket to deeper levels of music comprehension. It will help you understand the songs you play as well as write amazing songs of your own.

And we'll help you memorize the fretboard in little to no time!

Guitar Fretboard - Wondering

It's not just a funny line; memorize the first letter of each word and you now know the names of all the open strings on the guitar.

The fretboard has numerous patterns hidden in plain sight. We simply took advantage of these natural patterns to form fun memory phrases and games. Making the entire process fun, engaging and fast. No blunt memorization involved!

In just 5 simple steps, we've taken thousands of guitarists from "not knowing what notes on the fretboard are" to "complete fretboard pro" with little to no effort.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Memorized the Fretboard in 42 Minutes!
Reviewed in the United States on June 13, 2023
I'm an experienced guitarist with 1000s of gigs and touring under my belt. I was looking to memorize the fretboard so I can expand my knowledge of guitar theory.

The author says in the book that you could learn the fretboard in 5-10 minutes. You don't need 24 hours. At first I laughed, but it's true.

I started my stopwatch on the first page and at 42 minutes and 25 seconds I had the fretboard memorized.

The only reason it took me 42 minutes is because I was reading and re-reading parts. I also spaced out for 25 minutes to play guitar. Overall, it took me less than 10 minutes to learn the fretboard.

When I say memorized, I don't mean fluency. Fluency is where you can call out every note in under 1 second like a virtuoso. No, that requires practice to master. What this book will do is get you to know every note and be able to call it out in under 5 seconds. That's impressive considering there's no studying or memorization techniques involved.

I'm also pleased the author included a bonus section in his revised edition. I like how he includes music theory and application to the notes.

This book is a must-read for any skill level guitarist!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good method, but a big sales pitch for more.

Good method for learning and memorizing the fretboard, but too much cross-selling in the process, and in order to download the free aids for this book, you have to get on one of those annoying every day mailing lists. I’d rather pay a little more and not feel coerced into an extended sales pitch. Sell me on the merits of the book and I’ll buy more. Nobody likes to be nagged into buying anything, no matter how cute the copy is written.

This is the 1st book by Guitar Head I purchased. It was not the last. To begin it makes the statement that you will learn the fretboard ALL of it in 24 hours. I am new to the guitar (as a player) I played drums most of my life. Being around guitarists I picked up some stuff. But never looked at the guitar as my instrument. Issues with my spine and hip changed all that. I still wanted a creative outlet. So the guitar was the perfect outlet. I bought a Les Paul and while on Amazon tripped over this book. Did you know all of their books come with download able goodies to help you on your way? So I downloaded and began reading. It was far closer to eight hours and I had learned the fretboard. Took the mystery right out of it. I knew the fretboard. Granted it takes longer to know by sight and finger placement. But the basics are right there. It is a weight lifted!! An Ah-Ha moment. From there I moved on to other titles knowing that they know how to help you learn. Guitar Head books are written by Guitarists for Guitarists. They are there to help you become A better guitarist. Easy to follow and if you follow what's written, do the exercises they deliver what they promise. Give them a try. What do you have to lose?

5.0 out of 5 stars Easiest Way To Learn The Notes
Reviewed in the United States on September 21, 2019
Memorizing the notes on each string can be done. The problem with just memorizing the notes on each string is that it’s difficult to recall when moving your fingers around the fretboard. This book gives you the tools to move around the fretboard and know where the note is. The patterns explained in this book are the easiest way to memorize the notes and it allows for instant recall of a note while playing. The title of this book is factual. If you give it an honest 24 hrs. of practice, you will know the entire fretboard. Actually, 24 hrs. Is a long time with this information, but, giving it that amount of time will only solidify your knowledge of one of the most confusing things, when learning guitar. How many experienced players have you talked to that have responded “I don’t know the notes”, but yet they play amazing. This book will allow you to maybe “pay it forward” to those excellent players who have helped you along the way! Don’t hesitate to buy this book, if you’re not sure of the notes on the fretboard, whether you’re a beginner, or a seasoned pro. Good luck!

5.0 out of 5 stars By “24 hours,” he means one day

I assumed that “24 hours” was a cute way of saying that 24 hour’s worth of practice, or drills, or something, was required to memorize the fret board. I was mistaken. He really means one day. I am a beginner with six weeks worth of lessons under my belt. Even with my level of inexperience, I was able to memorize the entire fretboard in an afternoon. Candidly, the book could really be condensed down to a long magazine article. But it was worth the price of the book to so easily learn all the notes.

I've bought several titles which is an endorsement in itself. I find the authors are serious about guitar at the same time light hearted and encouraging. You'll find out that you not the only student struggling with new musical ideas. For the price you can't go wrong plus the bonus material is relevant and easily downloaded.
