5.0 out of 5 stars Great for investigative preschoolers

Bought these for my granddaughters who love exploring the outdoors. They are sturdy enough and easy enough for them to operate independently which makes me smile. While they weren’t made specifically for toddlers, they have withstood drops and spills and still work great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun to use, good clarity, great price

The whole family has stood in line behind my 7 year old to look at things up close and personal. It has great clarity for such a small microscope and it is really cool to see skin, leaves, blankets, and wood under the microscope without having to take a sample and put it on a glass, etc.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very nice magnification and illumination for hearing aid users and owners of firearms
Reviewed in the United States on November 28, 2024
This does exactly what it says it'll do. It provides illuminated magnification to help you really see tiny things better. Example: those of us who wear hearing aids have to routinely replace the "domes" that fit in our ears and the "wax guards" that are designed to keep ear wax from interfering with the function of the hearing aids. I know, not a great subject for general discussion. They are also great when examining firearms during inspection and maintenance performed while cleaning and lubricating components. Can you guess why a person who has been shooting firearms for 60 years wears hearing aids?

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun! Great for the Price

LOOKS BETTER to the naked eye than in the pictures. Seems you can only get your phone to focus so well on the subject through the lens. And speaking of taking photos -- it's definitely a pain! Every tiny movement of the microscope and your phone changes what it sees, auto focus really struggles, and auto brightness often blows out detail in the picture. I find I have to adjust ISO, shutter speed, and manual focus to get a decent pic, all while trying to move the phone and microscope as little as possible. But I don't hold that against this microscope. There are other more expensive ones that eliminate those problems, but this is great for a cheap thing to carry around and look at cool bugs with or whatever. The focus wheel is fairly stiff on mine but it's manageable. It's amazing how much detail you can see with even just 20× magnification! I feel like I need an eye patch keeping one eye closed this whole time though. Haha

3.0 out of 5 stars Lacking internal mirror; scan opposite direction
Reviewed in the United States on May 18, 2020
I would purchase something else with an internal mirror so that I don't have to view everything UPSIDE DOWN ONLY. The light is good, handheld size is compact and portable, sturdy design but it is quite difficult to scan your item the OPPOSITE DIRECTION every time you want to look at coin or item. I trusted the name due to having some good reviews but I personally think for the $14.99 + tax and cost of shipping unless you add up to $25 worth of stuff which I did) that I could buy a product with an internal mirror. No, I would not purchase this item again nor would I recommend it. Hassle every time I look at a coin, name brand or not.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great! but weak light & takes some getting used to
Reviewed in the United States on June 14, 2023
I was in the search for a microscope to look at various microorganisms in my aquariums. I stumbled upon this and saw many reviews saying to just get a loupe.

So, I purchased this microscope and a JARLINK 30x 60x loupe to compare.

The microscope has MUCH better magnification. The proclaimed 60x magnification on the loupe is a load of crap. The microscope on 20x magnification zooms in more than the loupe with 60x magnification.

In terms of clarity, they're both great but the microscope remains clear even with higher magnification.

The loupe does have its advantages though. It's, MUCH easier to use. You just put the lens directly on top of whatever you're looking at and you'll see it. On the other hand, it's a lot trickier with the microscope. The lens is positioned pretty high up and far away from the contact surface (of what you're trying to look at), so trying to line them up can be very frustrating. Your hands have to be still so that when you adjust the magnification you don't lose what you're looking at. Not to mention the image is reversed, so you have to remember right = left, up = down, etc... very hard to control at first, but I got better and better at it and it's quite manageable now.

Also, the loupe has MUCH brighter LED lights. This makes the loupe a lot better at viewing through transparent surfaces like through glass/plastic with bad/no lighting.

I am impressed by both. The loupe is amazing for its ease of use, but the proclaimed magnification is a lie. If you want to see something very tiny in better detail and don't mind spending half a minute trying to locate & adjust the magnification, then the microscope is better.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very poor design and defective
Reviewed in the United States on February 11, 2024
I had multiple problems with this microscope. First, there was some particle stuck inside the scope between the two lenses that was making vision partially blocked. That is a manufacturing defect. The second problem is that instead of a ring light coming down from the edges of the lens onto your subject, the light is coming off from the side, ruining the ability to get light directly onto any object that is not perfectly flat. I was trying to read the laser etch grading on the edge of a diamond stone and it was virtually impossible to get light on it. The third problem is that it is so shielded, it needs the light to see anything, so you must use your own bright light coming in from the sides. Fourth, it comes without a AA battery. Fifth, it has a lanyard hole but comes with no lanyard. I am returning.
