This story had me hooked, the paranoia, the weirdness, even the more obvious twists. This was a great story and honestly I loved how it ended. Definitely worth the read.

I’m not sure how I feel about this book. There were breadcrumbs to make it seem like Maya and her daughter were doing all kinds of sneaky things. The truth came out and it felt like a letdown. Then it went back to Maya and her daughter being problematic. I felt like I was on a rollercoaster. Carrie was a mess, but she was kind of lovable. Maya’s crazy villain monologue was such a reach. It just felt so unnecessary. The story was interesting enough, but it toggled between good and bad.

This book was an easy read. It kept me motivated to read more and definitely had me guessing wrong on who was pulling the shenanigans! The overall storyline was really good but I did find a couple things a little too unrealistic; the first being Carrie’s friend calling out of the blue after r20 years, showing up in 10 minutes and then being invited to stay. The second was the ending. It felt almost as if the author was just trying to quickly end it. I thought it needed a little more to it.

This book changed my life. As 33 year old male, I had trepidations on whether a “fun, twisty beach read that also has some more serious reflections on motherhood, aging, friendship, and the limits of loyalty” would exactly be up my alley. Boy, was I wrong. This book has universal appeal, and Kathleen Willett is my top candidate for up and coming author of a generation. From a purely objective and unbiased standpoint, Kathleen’s writing is groundbreaking and brilliant, and I cannot recommend this book highly enough. It saved my life.
Separately, this book also saved the lives of 25 schoolchildren - when their raft capsized on a whitewater rafting trip in Colorado, they used the lessons of perseverance and determination (and friendship!) that they learned in “Anything for a Friend,” (and “Mother of All Secrets,” which each of them had all also read, and so should you), as well as literal copies of the book (surprisingly buoyant) to help each other swim to safety. Multiple people who witnessed this have said independently that they believe the inherent power and magnetism of “Anything for a Friend” actually calmed the rapids for a few minutes so the children could safely reach the shore. They then all went on to become world leaders and dignitaries.
You absolutely must read this book. Do it today.

Engaging story, and it held my interest throughout. I've been struggling lately to find a book I didn't feel like ditching halfway through, and I am happy to say, I didn't have that inclination even once here. It kept me guessing, and thinking, and made me ponder a bit at the ending about what my own decision would have been. I will be looking at other books by this author, for sure.

Not very exciting and no real suspense. Why Maya would be so physical doesn't make sense. I didn't like any of the characters.

I love Kathleen Willett! She writes about complex female relationships in an honest but entertaining way. I appreciate that her characters are often flawed, but you can likely still understand where they’re coming from and why they make the choices they do.

ANYTHING FOR A FRIEND follows Carrie, who has recently relocated to Montauk from NYC with her husband and teenage daughter. When she receives a phone call from an estranged college friend she has no idea how drastically one little favor will impact her life.

I really enjoyed this domestic suspense. There’s plenty of tension and juicy secrets that had me struggling to put the book down. This is a totally bingeable little book and at just under 250 pages, you likely want to devour it in a single sitting.
