Overall I'm happy with this. My definition of "renewed" for a computer means it's been opened up, inspected, dust and dirt removed, cleaned, tested. I had reason to open this and I doubt it was opened. It still had a lot of dust in the fan. It works though. It's very quiet until you really make it work.

Bigger issue, after the installed Windows 10 was activated, it posted MANY warnings about viruses on the machine. Glad I hadn't installed the included wifi adapter with which Windows could have connected to my home network and possibly wreaked havoc.

I ended up booting this with a Linux flash drive. Machine runs well. It's fast enough to play 4K 60fps video with just a very minor amount of stutter. I haven't bothered running an anti-virus on the installed M.2 drive yet. I don't use Windows much so I don't really need it. I'll get to it eventually though.

The 3mm headphone port on the front is flaky. I have to pull out and push in the plug every time I boot it.

Fan did start winding up when playing the 4K 60fps videos. Fan doesn't get annoying when it's on. I really like the compact size. For the money it's just about an unbeatable deal. I will put a one terabyte drive in this once I've run it a while and have tested it thoroughly.

(ETA: 5/2/2024) Reinstalled the M.2 drive that came with this. Neither Microsoft Defender nor Avast anti-virus could remove whatever was on it. It was almost like any ability of these two programs to do anything was stopped. I pulled the drive and snapped in. No one needs that kind of issues. Scary stuff.

Product came quickly and decently packaged with no damage and with specs as described.
Logged into Windows which was preinstalled in local mode and Windows defender lit up with at least 50 replicating viruses and continued to find more.
Highly recommend a full drive wipe and Windows reinstall on any refurbished devices as they don't seem to do check to the drive beforehand.

This is the third HP mini I have seen renewed by Amazon. The first is a G3 and is very good. The second, a G4, was awful and sent back, the OS was corrupted and physically very sloppily renewed. This G5 is great, everything fell into place nicely and is now running Windows 11. It did not come with a HDD caddy. A nice touch is that the 16 gigs of ram is in one module. I believe that buying renewed computers is a bit of a crap shoot, some will be bad, and will need to be sent back, but most will be good, in need of a little work, but well worth the effort. Do your home work, check which CPUs will do Windows 11. Read the listing carefully, plain "SSD" is likely a off brand SATA device, etc. good luck

 update 12.28.2023: bios v 02.07.01 discovered works for hdmi/dport sound out in batocera/linux. booted into Windows 10 and it automatically updated the BIOS to the latest. not wanted ! I did not have the BIOS locked. doah ! HP website has bios v02.10.00 so installed that and then rolled back one at a time.

I bought this G5 for the sole purpose of making a dedicated retro gaming machine.

this is a refurbished one that came from a company called

and the reason for the 4 stars is mine arrived with a bad cooling fan that would sometimes work, see attached pics of BIOS logging. I replaced the fan for under $15 via a vendor here on Amazon and it seems to be working well. see attached pic of the new fan cooling under a 15 minute extensive CPU all core stress test.

why not just return it and get another one? I've gone through 4 orders and each one had something wrong with it, different suppliers, different models, g3,g4. This g5 bad fan was something I could easily fix.

the G5 is more than what is needed for Batocera retro gaming, mainly using mame, but this G5 came with two nvme m.2 sockets so I could keep the Windows 10, SSD and install my own nvme m.2, 1-terabyte dedicated to Batocera v38. allowing dual boot with Batocera as the default boot.

for any others that wish to use Batocera with the G5 HP elitedesk 800, you have to roll back the BIOS version if you want sound through the HDMI / DisplayPort to the monitor, as Linux/Batocera doesn't appear to have audio drivers for the new HP bios(es). v02.06.00 was the bios version that worked for me.

Do not buy refurbished pc on Amazon, loaded with viruses and nothing being done about it. This is now my second one returned.

You won't get a better computer for the money. Yes it has a Display Port, 2 actually for 2 screens. It doesn't have HDMI, Display Port is actually better.
