Nancy Ann Healy has done a masterful job creating her Alex and Cassidy series, with its engrossing story line and its continually expanding family of characters.
Under the pen name J.A. Armstrong, the author has created another equally engaging series, By Design, featuring Candace and Jamison as the two main protagonists along with their extended family and “adopted” employees and friends.
I especially appreciate how well the author portrays each character — from President Candace Reid’s Deputy National Security Adviser Alex Toles to Eleana and Claire’s toddler Ian, a.k.a., Mr. Dirty Butt. The adults and kids populating these pages each has a unique personality.
The series present an impressive collection of strong, smart, sensitive, independent, and conscientiously interdependent women.
With the Swan and the Sparrow, the two sets of characters increasingly intersect as Healy merges the Alex and Cassidy and By Design storylines.
I’m thoroughly invested in the plots, and with this edition I was captivated as the characters unearthed the clandestine machinations of their fathers as members of “the Collaborative.”
I was also unnerved as Alex, Cassidy, Claire, and Eleana learned how significantly the Collaborative actions have affected their lives.
