5.0 out of 5 stars Patterson at his best!

Bring a book 2 ASAP!
These characters are complex, smart, funny, with more cases to solve. This was a fast read that I hated to end. Holmes, Marple, & Poe are high profile PIs with the characteristics of their namesakes, in modern NYC. To the NYPD, these detectives are as mysterious than the cases they solve. Rich, stylish, loyal... I can't wait for the movie!

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyed the book

Interesting characters. Fascinating plot line. Bought right away. And I enjoyed reading it. That’s the good news. To me, written to appeal to a reader used to TV plots and not the mystery novel genre. Not enough principal character development and a lot of fluff. A lot of familiar tropes and no character depth. There was something about the writing style that was a bit off to me. Can’t quite put my finger on it, but it just felt dumbed down. Still worth a read and maybe in follow up books.

The fast pace and the overlapping cases was intriguing and fun. The author kept true to the foible’s and strengths of the original characters.

I immensely enjoyed this book. It was full of different cases. All were interesting. Some were predictable, but still enjoyable to read. I look forward to sequels.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great first half

The book starts out wonderful. Gets you hooked. Had a hard time putting it down until mid-way. Then things started getting odd. Almost had a rushed feeling. When Patterson teams up with another writer does he write the first half and the other author writes the second half? That could explain it. Finished the book and placed it in a Little Library, not a keeper. Sad...this had so much promise.

4.0 out of 5 stars Gimmicky but still entertaining

The three private detectives in this story have the gimmicky last names of Holmes, Marple and Poe. Once you get past that you have a good fast moving story. The PI's deal with multiple cases including serial killers operating for 60 years, a kidnapping of a rich man and his step daughter, an art theft, a model's murder. Our PI's have a difficult relationship with law enforcement and personal issues similar to their long ago namesakes. I appreciate the pacing of the book with the usual short chapters favored by author Patterson. And the second half of the book is definitely better than the first half. I almost gave the book 5 stars but ultimately settled on a 4 star rating.

I am a big fan of James Patterson. It started with Alex Cross and I've gotten into the series of the Women's Murder Club, Michael Bennett and NYPD Red. Now he's introduced 3 new characters and I hope he writes more! These characters have a touch of their original namesakes and modern flaws. Think I read this in 2 days. It was a delightful page turner.
