About this item

Can love bloom again under the heat of the Spanish sun?

Ten years ago, while travelling before starting a cookery apprenticeship, Alice fell head over heels for Barcelona: the food, the sun and the gorgeous Andy Hall…Family tragedy sent her back to London, but now, finally, she’s been given the chance to return. Only to find herself working alongside none other than Andy, the only man to ever break her heart.

The decade apart has changed them both, though he still has his frustratingly good looks—and is Alice imagining it or does the spark that always existed between them still burn just as brightly? Not ready to risk getting hurt again, she focuses on exploring the culinary delights of the city, and begins to remember a life she once dreamed of…

As Alice rediscovers a world of possibilities under the hot Spanish sun, could there be a second chance for Andy and the love they used to share? Perhaps the vibrant flavours of Barcelona might just be the ingredients for everlasting love?

This book was a fun little romance.
It takes place in Barcelona and happens in the present and the past.
I loved that the present was from the perspective of one character and the past from another, it helped to keep them separate.
The romance was closed door and not spicy.
The storyline is very cute and easy to follow. The characters were easy to like and root for.
I give this book four out of five stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely Romance set in Barcelona

It’s a beautiful book that narrates a lovely, colorful, heart touching love story set in the backdrops of Barcelona. The city played a pivotal role in this beautiful love journey and the way author makes us feel like as if we’re walking down the sunny streets of the city alongside the characters makes the story all the more real and believable. The complexities of guilt from the past lives, how it impacts the current lives and relationships is beautifully captured. Though the storyline seems simple, the author’s writing adds more layers and flavors. Going with a well deserved 5-star.

3.0 out of 5 stars appealing location and fun for foodies

although i found the Barcelona location charming and the characters interesting, the lack of development of our two lovebirds was annoying. This Amazon book like many others I’ve read recently are shallow in the sense that both characters fail to speak their truths to one another. Half the time they don’t even know what they are feeling. Lacking consciousness and emotional intelligence I lost respect for their dilemmas that kept them from achieving a mature and healthy relationship early on.

I read this as a First Pick for June. Clean romance and pretty sweet as romances go these days. What I loved most was the descriptions and experiences the characters have in Barcelona. I was there for a time when I was younger and the parts where they explore the city resonated with me. I feel like Alice had a lot of potential but she didn't really develop until the end of the book. It got a little frustrating to keep revisiting the toxic relationship with her mother (and the annoying ringtone) over and over until just about the end of the story. I think Andy was a bit more likeable, though I did enjoy them as a couple in general. The thing that I liked least is that Alice's deep secret from Andy was pretty flimsy and to be honest, underwhelming. Though I understand how it ties in with Andy's life experiences. It just felt too dramatic to account for the whole ten years of guilt and misunderstanding. Overall, this was a decent read. Solid 3.5 stars

After reading this book I want to get on a plane to Barcelona and find this village. With all its wonderful food and interesting characters. I could just smell the food and see the charming town.

3.0 out of 5 stars It’s well-written but I’m just not the target audience

I got this for June’s first reads knowing I wouldn’t really like this as I generally dislike second-chance romances. This book met my expectations. That being said I’m gonna try to give this book a fair rating despite it not being my cup of tea.

I think the book is very well-written and, while I’ve never been to Barcelona, I love how descriptive the author is and how much love goes into the food.

The flashback chapters make up half this book and are way too long. I understand having them as a way to introduce characters and to see how the main couple’s romance was in the beginning (it’s more like a fling than a romance). I just felt like the flashbacks serve purely to draw out cliffhangers from the “now” chapters. The “ten years ago” chapters don’t actually show me what happened. You only get to find out what happened when being told, not shown, in the “now” chapters once the main characters finally talk to each other.

I forgot to mention I also hate miscommunication and a whole lot of plot could’ve been condensed if both of them had just talked to each other. There is no need for ten years if they had just properly talked. I fault them both for this tbh.

And lastly SPOILERS:

While I say I blame both of them, it really did seem like a fling at best based off of the flashback chapters. There isn’t any communication between them to make it seem serious besides exchanging a necklace? Most of the flashback chapters are written in Andy’s POV and a lot of it really reads like he could’ve been reading more into the relationship than Alice did. And while it’s true Alice ghosted him, Andy says “it’s over!” and somehow expects her to chase him, like what? Idk why he thought at that point in their relationship that playing hard-to-get would work. It also makes me feel the ick when Andy is going after Alice without properly explaining his pending divorce with Mariana. And not only that, but he gets in her pants when she says she is inebriated and he isn’t. Andy just gives me the ick. It ties in well to how Alice’s mum made the same mistakes as Alice did, I suppose.

This is my first book from this author, I did not really know much about the book but I am soo so happy I read it, it took me 1 day, a short few hours and lots of smiles to finish it. The writing was so easy to follow, the story feels like there's some holes throughout but everything gets cleared up in the end and of course the ending is exactly what I didn't know I needed. It was perfect, I do with that the story could have been a little bit longer as I feel like it was an info dump at the last 5 chapters but the story was adorable and I love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars how to find your one lover

I did not like the length of the book but the story was so engaging I had to keep reading til the end! True love wins out in the end.
How one has to come to grips with the past is addressed. Honesty really is the best policy in relationships.

Highly recommend!!!8
