5.0 out of 5 stars Great Astronomy App!
Reviewed in the United States on September 6, 2012
I tried several astronomy apps for my Kindle Fire before trying this one. It beat the others hands down. More stars and non-stellar targets than others. The interface, although a little non-intuitive works great. Allows a graphic display of changing seasons easily with the ability to change days while retaining a time of day. Great teaching tool for new or younger aspiring astronomers. Two locations make it easy to retain a home location while planning for a trip to another place.

It includes both Messier and Caldwell objects with pictures and descriptions and shows them nicely on the screen.

One minor problem (reported to author) displays the wrong date when selecting a meteor shower, but this is a truly small problem in an otherwise robust and easy to use program. A second minor problem is no night vision (dim red display) available at this time.

Please note that since the Kindle Fire has no GPS, several features that work well with a phone are not available on the Kindle Fire.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic but needs more recent updates

The app is great and very user friendly and very fun.
My only stipulation is that it doesnt seem well up to date with the recent photos and information on some planets and moons and even exo planets that NASA posts on just their everyday website, such as the orbiting mass of Pluto is still in blurred resolution from pictures taken from years ago and little to nothing is listed on it that is relitive to any new and current information in the descriptive information.
Other than the updates on current info I think the app is great!

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly astounding.

I'm an amateur, but the stars and planets have always fascinated me. This program gives a name to every star in the galaxy, and gives a greater understanding of the constellations. It also gives a directional map of what we are seeing. Helps also with astrology understanding. Thank you!

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth it

I have taught astronomy at the uniivesity level so I know good field tools when I see them. This isn't it!!! Horrible interface that is simply too much trouble in the field when I want to be focusing on photography. Spend the cash on Star Map Pro its a much better ap and well worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars User friendly, powerful, accurate planetarium.
Reviewed in the United States on September 6, 2012
With constant rumors about Google dropping support for free Sky Map, I was looking for reliable replacement and found this app.
It does not default to 'point to the sky' mode with its jittery and inaccurate display (even with sensor calibration I could never get correct, steady display on 4 devices I have tried). It has wealth of features and good level of information (which is my problem with competing SkEye).
It does not bombard you with unwanted features or crash on you (like SkyOrb does). My favorite is the perfect implementation of pointer: you get cross-hair that floats slightly above the point where you touch the screen, so you can actually see what you are pointing at!
Have this app on all my phones and tablets and love it so far.
At the moment of writing this review, this app is available only on Amazon.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice

Very well done. Works well as a planetarium program.
I would like it better if it was usable 'scope side', i.e. had a night setting, and more objects in the data base.

5.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining & Educational!
Reviewed in the United States on May 26, 2012
Super cool & fun! It must be difficult for a developer to create an app that is both entertaining and educational, but this app has it all! It is inspiring me to get outside and explore the night sky. Having it on the Kindle makes it easy to show the sky to others, too. I'm enjoying it immensely

2.0 out of 5 stars Does not image correctly
Reviewed in the United States on June 16, 2012
When all coordinates date and time are correctly entered the image shows a night sky at 9AM. I also have a nook tablet with this app and compared all the User entered data with the kindle fire. All data and preferences are the same. This app on the nook tablet works correctly. This app on the kindle fire does not. This app on the kindle fire also overlaps several images. Hopefully a later update will correct this.
