I had a 10 gallon trash can before ordering this one and I’m so glad I purchased this new one! The size is great for the kitchen, and the trash bag really stays in place with the securing arms of the can. I’m not a big fan of trash cans with the pedal-open, so I prefer this latch feature better. I will say though, I wish they didn’t put such a hard to peel sticker on the side of the trash can. The sticker ripped when I tried to remove it and the leftover paper & residue was very difficult to remove.

 UPDATE: I have been informed that I am an idiot and this trash can is me-proof. I was loading the bags incorrectly. After being shown the correct loading process, I have zero complaints with this trash can. In fact, I have bought two.

Well, it's definitely toddler-proof. So much so that I can't figure out how to get the lid to stay in place. The latch works great, but the lid does not fit on the trash can itself.
Ok, so, pros:
*Great, large size
*can't beat the price
*The latch works wonderfully
*It is, definitely, a trash can. I asked. I don't think it lied to me.
*I can almost fit inside it, so that's cool I guess

Cons:
*I'm an idiot and can't get the lid to stay on.
*It doesn't do my chores for me. Which wasn't promised, but I can dream.

This is a simple and compact trash bin, good size for a small kitchen or small family. It is sleek and clean-lined, not like a hamper or industrial looking one, but there are no LinerLock bag wires inside. A regular 13 gallon trash bag fits snuggly on the rim, although it does require some stretching and pulling. The trash bin came with some smudges. Need to be cleaned right out of the box. Some imperfections on the rim are sharp, but can be easily taken care of with a craft knife. The push button works just fine. No spring jumps out yet.

A couple of differences between this one and the Spring Top 14.9 x 17.2 x 25.5 inches model is that this one does not have lock lid feature. The lid just sits loosely on top of the bin. Also, when the lid is in open position 1/4 of the opening is blocked and the lid sits 1 inch below the opening thus a higher chance to get trash caught on the lid by accident. Whereas the Spring Top model can open 100% without the lid blocking the opening, which is a nice feature.

We bought this trash bin based on only one photo on its listing. Hope this helps!

Update 3-23-2021: It's hard to believe buying a working trash bin could be so difficult. After being a bit disappointed by the Rectangle Spring Top, we bought the Spring Top. Turns out not only the new trash can arrived even dirtier than the Rectangle Spring Top, it wobbles like a tumbler toy. The all around smudges look like it's been used and returned. The finish of the plastic also look dull and cheap. We decided to stick with the Rectangle Spring Top. At least it is stable and looks a lot nicer. Hope we can return this second one with no problem. Will update about it.

I purchased this trash can as a replacement. As with most cans, our lid latch broke. Hoping this Rubber Maid Spring Top Trash Can 13gal. last as long as my last one. This one looks like it’s made well.

This is a trash can, and works as a trash can. We use this as our kitchen trash can, and it holds in any smells fairly well when closed. I clean it out every 3-4 trash bags, so I haven't noticed if the bin itself holds on to odors for a long time. It fits the Costco garbage bags, which is what we wanted.

This product's lid contains sharp springs about 2 inches long which can come flying off of it for no apparent reason.

6 weeks after purchase i noticed that the lid was crooked. I picked the lid up, and one spring went flying. Turned it over to see what was going on, and the other spring shot up. It took me quite a while to find that second spring, and all the while I was worried that one of my pets could swallow it or try to play with it and hurt themselves. I finally located the spring in the litterbox!

No response when I wrote to the manufacturer's website.

It was a decent trash can before it broke, but I wouldn't risk having it in a house with pets. and in fact I'm now wondering if any trash can with a lid that springs open might also be problematic.

First, the quality of Rubbermaid products can be discerned immediately just by handling them. This one has a couple of features though that set it apart from all average spring lid models out there. It has a device built in that holds the bag, a pair of brackets fitting neatly into clips which the bag can be wrapped over and locked into place making it unnecessary to take the lid OFF in order to change out the bag. Also the lid clips into place in four points where the side grips are, keeping the lid from getting knocked off onto floor unintentionally. Both HUGELY AWESOME details. The way the lid is designed with the spring placement and the quality of the material I evaluate as being ideal, meaning the likelihood of damaging this to the point the lid tears at the hinge or where the spring becomes dysfunctional is significantly minimized. Compared to a can from their competition, which has none of those thoughtful touches mentioned previous or nearly the finesse in lid and spring design, the choice has never been clearer. Rubbermaid for the win!

Also, not sure I've ever rated a vendor before this, but TMAK Enterprises LLC were great when I needed to contact them and promptly responded to my inquiry.

It was mailed quickly and delivered early, something that was very much appreciated! The packaging was sufficient and it arrived in perfect condition.

Came broken, I had to fix the spring for the pop top feature because it was bent on one side and backwards on other side. Only reason I didn't return is because I had already destroyed the box it came in and it was cheap so I thought "ok whatever I'm handy." My other qualm with this can is how easy it holds onto smells. I use the fabuloso scented bags, I take out the trash every couple days, I wash out stuff that would smell, but this can is made out of a cheap plastic that literally grabs onto even the slightest bad odor. Hope to replace it soon, but it will do for now.
